i am switching my dvd drives from a hitachi to a samsung (ms25). i have been following this tutorial: http://www.clevermod.com/index.php?article=11 and so far i am up to the point where i get the key from the hitachi drive. i currently have the key and now i have to flash into to the samsung drive. i bought a sata card with the via chipset. i've been reading all of these tutorials and they aren't making any sense to me. all i want to do is put the new key onto the drive but all of these tutorials are showing me how to put hacked firmware for playing backup games. i don't want to do that. is there a simple way of flashing just the key? and please speek in layman's terms for i am new to this stuff.

first i would use iprep.it will do the drive spoof great.

i dont know if you can spoof a drive with all orig firmware.
i think it will be a hacked firmware that will play backups.

one of the big guys my have something to say just give it time.

The easiest way, IMO, is to get the orig.bin from your hitachi drive, which you probably already have. Then you will need to dump your firmware from your samsung drive. For this, you will want to use iPrep to prepare your USB device (again, easiest, but there are other options) to boot to dos and use that to read the firmware. On the usb device, there will be a directory that contains mtkflash.exe, samtool.exe, some batch files, and maybe a few other files. You will want to put your orig.bin from your hitachi drive in that directory.

So, you boot to dos. Then you goto the directory created by iPrep on your USB device. Type the following:

mtkflash r /m /sata ms25.bin

Select the port that is labeled 'Xtreme'. That will dump the ms25's firmware to ms25.bin. Then, type the following:

samtool orig.bin ms25.bin

When asked to spoof to whatever hitachi version you have, type 'Y'. Assuming you have no errors from samtool, your ms25.bin is ready to be flashed back to the drive. It has been preped with your key and version strings from your hitachi. So, reboot your PC back into dos again, goto the directory, and type the following:

mtkflash w /m /sata ms25.bin

Again, select the 'Xtreme' port. That will flash your newly prep'd stock ms25 firmware to your drive. Then you just place it in your 360 console where the Hitachi came from and you're good to go.

You just do a 'raw' dump of your firmware using 360fwtb.

I'm sure the guide you are using will work. Just dump the firmware as i described above. Open your firmware in 360 Firmware Toolbox and inject your key. You may need to open key.bin with a hexeditor, then fill in the key section with your key in 360FWTB. Then spoof the firmware to the version of your hitachi drive. Save the firmware.

Then boot to dos and flash the way i wrote.

alright i am trying to do a raw dump but everytime i load a dvd movie or game, i hear the disk spinning but i also hear this bad squeaking/grinding noise. i took the cover off and it doesn't like like there is anything wrong but the disk spins and the laser starts to read but it won't take any of th disks. the cd won't stay in there long enough for me to dump the firmware

edit: nvm i got it to work

i am now trying to use iprep but i don't understand the first step. it says load firmware file. what firmware file am i loading?

edit again: found the right firmware
but now i have another problem

i am up to the point where i need to flash the drive. i type in mtkflash w /m /sata ms25.bin and then select the xtreme drive. it then says Port: c100, Master/Slave: a0 and just hangs there. it won't go any further. i also tried typing in iFlash and my serial number but it also hangs at the same point. what do i do now?
