Switching HDD's

A while back my nephew had gotten an XBox off ebay. The problem was that whenever he turned it on that famous error 5 screen came up. My Xbox is modded with the 2.6 CE and I'm wanting to know if I can put his hard drive into my xbox, lock it and then stick it back in his xbox without doing any damage to my Xbox. If anybody knows what to do please let me know. It will be greatly appreciated.

error 5 is being displayed because either:

The HDD is already locked to a previous xbox, and will need unlocking from the original xbox before it will work in another.

it is a new drive, and there is nothing on it (in which case unlock it and use it)

the hard drive has deaded

your hard drive is NOT locked if you put it in moded xbox lock then put in nephew it will not work you will have to put modchip into xbox to lock hard drive for it to work
