Well I have a 360 with a bad 59 Hitachi dvd drive in it, I have a 79 Hitachi drive laying around. Can i basically swap the 2 and the 360 still work, Of course I know I would have to flash the old firmware on to the other one. So basically my question is, do i need another 59 dvd drive for the 360 to work?

Ya, it will work I swapped a 47 to a 59 works great. Keep in mind that the 59 has no ap 2.5 and the 79 does. I believe u can flash them to the other however that would be a little different since there are on different fw's. Or the easiest u can do it what I did is take the PCB out of the 59 and take out the 79 PCB and install the 59's PCB to the 79 drive. It should work. Hitachi are the easiest to swap boards cause there's no soldering needed.

Yea I was thinking about the AP 2.5, I think I might just buy another 59 Hitachi :) I have a few flashed 360's but they all are either benq's or lite-on's

How do you mean "bad"? If the laser is shot just swap them over however if it is the PCB that has died then you will need an identical replacement I think.

you just need your correct firmware put on the drive and it becomes whatever revision you make it
