GENERAL System Update Stopped !! Can't update?

Hello all,

I got my friend's Xbox 360 S Console (4GB Kinect Bundle) and it's bricked.

He's saying that he was updating the software through normal network update and then the update failed. And now it's bringing up the error code:

3524-396B-B600-0F00-C000-0059

I have tried continuing the same update that he started which would be 396B (14699) but the system keeps returning "can't read the update". I tried on 3 USB Sticks (all FAT32), an external HDD and a CD-R and nothing!

I also tried other firwmares like 13599, 14717 and 13604. All same issue.

This is a genuine Xbox and he has never modded it, so I searched for C000-0059, the error is most likely for "flashed" DVD drives. He's saying he never flashed it though.

So any help would be appreciated.

It is trying to update from 13604 to 14699, so the firmware on the DVD drive shouldn't really even matter.

Have you tried booting the console while holding the controller sync button?

Yup, holding down sync and then booting. Same problem.

As a last resort, you could RGH it enough to get the CPU key and build a replacement retail image from the dump you took.

Is the warentee sticker still intact? If so, this sounds like a job for MS

It is intact yes, but I do not have Microsoft Tech Support here in Egypt. So if I could fix it myself that would be better.

What about this RGH ? Does it have risks of totally destroying the console or will it fix it?

Yes, it has risks, especially if you are not an experienced with soldering. Be sure to flash a RETAIL image, and remove the chip when you are done, or the console will be banned from Live almost instantly.

Just tried the latest update now 15574, no luck..

Are there any other software workarounds that I can try ?

If it stopped in the update to 14699, thats the only update that will work to finnish the update. Any other dashboars updates you try is just a waste of time. Just put it in the root of a fat32 formated usb, insert it in the xbox and boot. If it does not work, try other usb-ports and maybe other usb-sticks.

C000-02B6 ! Does that mean anything?

is the original drive in the console ? if it is a spoofed rive it will fail update every time, i would dump drive to see what is says just because it's not modded doesn't mean the drive has never been replaced and spoofed to the drive that was originally in the console

It's an original console with the warranty sticker intact so it hasn't been open. I've heard of flashing the DVD to stock firmware, can I do that without purchasing other equipment?

Your "14699" update must have been another version. This was the exactly solution that we told you from the beginning, maybe next time you will listen to us.
