well, i just got this today from him, and none of the backups i have made will work for me. i was using memorex DL media. does the type of dvd really make a difference? should i run out and get some verbatim DL discs?

all the backups either will not load from the main menu or load and then come back and say unable to read disc.

any information is appreciated. thanks

Are you sure your backups are iXtreme compatible? Have you checked them with Mulleter to make sure?

Are you either setting the layerbreak manually or by using the .dvd file and not the .iso?

Are you burning at no faster than 4x? (Preferably 2.4x)

i use mulleter to check for iXtreme compatibility for all of them. when i burn them, i just load the .iso to nero and burn straight from that at 2.4x.

the drive i have is the hitachi. i burned another copy today on a HP invent DL disc (thats all i could find, going out tomorrow to get some verbatim ones) and it didnt work either.

the dvds im using are DVDR+. should i be using DVDR-?

There's your problem. First, Nero doesn't support custom layerbreak so you can't use that. I suggest Imgburn since it's free and works great. Second, you have to use the .dvd file and not the .iso unless you set the layerbreak to 1913760 yourself before burning. This is all covered in the "Backing Up Games" section of Textbook's tutorial, you might want to read that over.

i did read that, but obviously not nearly well enough. well, skimmed over it would be more correct. i have back up images before, but never with Dual Layer stuff. never games either,mind you. i just assumed it would be the same as single layer media. but of course, assumption is the mother of all **** ups................thanks for the tips, mate.

all you do is go into notepad and make the .dvd file
it goes like this

LayerBreak=1913760
name of game.iso

that is all my friend
