Re: Spoofing my Liteon

Welcome to the forums Orctic!

1) All Xbox 360 drives must be flashed through SATA (except Hitachis, which can use a USB to SATA adapter). If you have a LiteOn with the 74850C firmware (it will tell you on the drive case, and also in Jungle Flasher) all you need is a probe to read the drive key (you can also do the MRA hack if you want a complete firmware dump - but you don't need to do this). You will need some sort of connectivity kit (or use the 360 itself) to power the drive though.

2) Yes. Well, once you spoof the firmware, you will need to flash it to the drive :? Just spoof the Samsung iXtreme firmware (not your original Samsung firmware) as your LiteOn and flash it to the Samsung drive (note: iXtreme LT cannot be spoofed).

I don't understand why you would buy a Samsung drive to replace your LiteOn as they are more problematic and harder to spoof than if you just bought another LiteOn drive. Replacing the laser or adjusting the later pot. would probably have worked too.

Re: Spoofing my Liteon

Is it ABSOLOUTELY nescessary to have a probe, or can it be done with just a SATA cable?

I could still buy a liteon if it's better but the impression I got was that they were harder to flash

And what's ixtreme lt?

(me being a noob again)

You don't NEED a probe - but it's the cheapest and easiest thing to use to get your key. There is a guide here on how to make yourself a homemade probe. I've made one a while back and it works great (though now I use a connectivity kit).

All LiteOn drives are flashed using SATA - it's getting the drive's key that is the harder bit. So, you can buy any f/w version LiteOn drive (74850C , 83850C , 83850C v2, 93450C - the hardware is all the same) and swap the new LiteOn's mobo with the one in your broken LiteOn (no flashing necessary - just disconnecting & connecting some cables) or, you can erase the firmware on the new LiteOn and flash it with your broken LiteOn's firmware.

IXtreme LT (LiteTouch) is the latest firmware developed for 360 drives - it will let you read any wave game and (as long as your backups are properly patched) should be safe to use on XBL. If you buy a new LiteOn drive, you can use this firmware - if you buy a different drive, you will have to use older firmware or stick with stock.

Re: Spoofing my Liteon

I might as well just buy a probe - that homemade one looks beyond me :D

I will buy a liteon now, so the only hardware I will need to transfer my old key to the new drive and flash it is a probe (and a SATA), am I correct?

I also read in the Jungleflasher tutorial that some liteons (the 7 and 8 series) are easier to work with. Is THAT true also?

Sorry if I'm repeating myself

EDIT: SEE NEXT POST

Re: Spoofing my Liteon

Ignore the last post, New plan - I'm going to take the mobo out of my old liteon and put it in the new, probably won't flash.

That will require soldering right? (I've looked inside my drive and seen 6 or so wires soldered to the mobo)

EDIT: Oh, and, just out of interest, it is the mobo that decides whether its a 7xxxxxx or a 8xxxxxxx right? So if I take the mobo out of a 7xxxxxx drive and put it into a 8xxxxxx drive, it will still be a 7xxxxxxx? Or am I wrong?

Thanks, and sorry for so many questions

Yes, you are right. Don't be sorry - I love answering questions (that I can) :D

Yeah I forgot about that, you will need to solder some wires - but they are big and it shouldn't be hard (just don't get them mixed up).

The drive's mobo contains the firmware (which is just a chip with software on it). It is this firmware on the mobo that decides whether it is a 74850C, 83850C, 83850C v2, or a 93450C LiteOn drive.
