If you consider the resistor install a fix than the Smartxx guys already beat TeamX and Xenium to it. I was reading in the smartxx forums a couple weeks back when I was researching what chip to buy. I cant tell you how relieved I was when I found out I had a 1.4 box.
SmarttXX hanst openly came out and stated that though. If team x acknowledges it then if they can fix it via software. That would send shock waves into the market. Potentially increasing sales. for ths chip

Even someone on benefit can afford it.
Thats a ridiclious theroy....here in the states there 149.99 USD and I dont know about you but I cant and wont afford that once a year

I believe that 99 quid equates to around 150 USD.

you are correct that SmartXX hasnt ofically came out with a fix but some members on there forums have come up with this a while ago.

Now a question I have is what is the voltage at the do point with no chip installed? Only thing I thought the chip did was send a ground signal to the D0 point when the chip overrode the MS Bios.

Shouldnt the original voltage be 3.3v without a chip installed? I dont get what the big deal is then. If someone would clear this up for me it'd be greatly appreciated.

Its 3.3v with no chip installed grounding it to 0v is fine its the resulting voltage that flies to the xyclops chip that is the concern. adding the resistro drops the voltage and solves the problem. I think this can be fixed with software though...Myabe jroc can test it with flashbios enabled?? and see what our results are then. Im still waiting for team x to chime in on this. Im sure they see this thread.

What is the xyclops chip? I havent installed my X3 chip yet because its a christmas gift, tho I did see it downstairs today when wrapping gifts for my mom. If you can point out or tell me where this chip is, either on the mobo or the x3 chip itself.

Why is this different on the 1.6 boxes than on the 1.0-1.5 boxes. Is it because of the lpc rebuild? Ive taken automotive Electrical systems in college,so I do know a little about micro circutry but more so on macro circutry.

can i be any more clear ????

its bullshit marketing ploys by other people. TRUST ME !!!!

ffs you'd think you guys would take my word for it.

we pinch lframe for a few milliseconds with 0v - its absolutley not needed any more than that.

besides i have been testing x3's in xbox's for almost a year now - i have a clue ok ?

i didnt read that before - i believe what he says...if hes created a cool chip like this then he knows what hes doing...end of.

well, i wouldn't do that resistor mod, since the Xyclops chip is designed to get a 3.3V signal and you put a resistor in there it is very likely it would become unstable, so if you are going to cut the lframe trace to do the resistor mod i would cut the trace and put a switch on the outside to reconnect the lframe to the xyclops chip, then there wouldn't be any problems, you would just have to use an external on/off switch. and besides, we don't even know if the shorting of lframe would harm the box, probably the box would brake pretty since there is no resistance compared to the resistance in the xyclops chip... well i guess xecuter would know what he is talking about but when his statement is faulty about the pinching the lframe for a short time it seems a bit weird. or maybe he meant that shorting out lframe wont harm the xbox... noone knows for sure...

Testing shows what, that your xbox runs differently when using a mod chip, duh !

Whats your problem?

I don't think i seen ONE person on here complain that thier lframe has been fried or anything...
xecuter and the other mods have stayed clear away from threads like this for one reason - its BULL!
Also - there is going to be a x3 bios update soon so what the feck you worrying about?
If there is any issues fixed it will be mentioned when the bios is released....

im sure if this was a real problem teamx would be looking into it because if it was supposidly to 'fry' lots of people would be very angry and post thier results etc and they would go out of business and probably never recover - but no - this is not the case and im sure thier confidence in this problem being non-existent or balls is solidly justified...

The solution would be to only hold the line low just long enuf to boot the chip... or to load any game or app.
Then send it high again..

Duno if this can be changed with a simple bios update...the physical connections are still on the modchip..

All this stuff remains to be seen... and yes you are right in saying that there is no proof of these damaged consoles....YET

Shopping for a new soldering iron

This seems like the best spot for this topic.

I am shopping for a new soldering iron with a smaller tip, I was thinking about the weller WP25 for the iron and for the tip I was looking at the ST7, mainly I need something small that can help me to solder to IC legs.

here is the iron

and the tip

was really more of a question, I went ahead and ordered the tip once it gets here if it is small enough I will buy the iron.
