OK I am about to start training myself to reball Xboxes I bought a hot air rework station and all the stencils and whatnot I am planning on using a griddle( I know I know tsk tsk) I don't have the money for a preheater right now but I will get one eventually but as I have about 20 boxes that need random work ill make due for now. My question is I bought a thermocouple which included leads that would not work for the temperature range I needed so I order these http://www.ebay.com/itm/331177851754?_trksid=p2059210.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK:MEBIDX:IT 10 ft stainless steel ones. I want to have one under the board to measure preheater temp and the one on top for top temperature. My question/s are can I bend the actual lead over so that it runs directly underneath my board I want to put it through the griddle as well fyi and does the temperature reading come from the whole lead or just the tip of the lead. I want to make my setup as accurate as possible till I can afford an actual preheater. I have no doubts that I can accomplish the reball with the setup as I have read and watched about every site and video I could and I have soldering skills and learn very quickly just need to verify a few things before I get started.

No I've seen videos on you tube of people doing reballs successfully with a hot air rework station and a griddle as a preheater so it is possible without the expensive IR equipment search you tube an check it out as long as you can reach the appropriate temps it can be done

you gonna loan me 200 lol I didn't think so and as I said I will buy one but I aint got the money right now... my question was as to whether I could bend the thermocouple lead so when I mount it up through the griddle it will fit underneath the board so I can monitor temps underneath
