ok here's the deal - I modded an xbox in much the same way as i've always done however when I turned it on it fragged so I did a hot swap with an x3 but couldn't get evox to reflash it.......hmmmm.......

So I bought a programmer (and 3 more x2.6's) so i programmed them all up this morning. I flashed one with the 5035 bios, one with 4981 and one with 4978. all 3 chips finished flashing succesfully with x2bm.

Now....every single one of them frags!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! EVERY ONE !! However the X3 ALWAYS boots up first time. So it can't be the soldering, right?

The machine is a 1.4 and yes I do have the correct bios on each chip i've tried.

Now I thought I knew how to mod an xbox - after 3 years experience - but this is killing me....

Anyone out there with experince of this - I'd love to know your thoughts

If the chips were able to be flashed, and the intall works for an X3, it has to be either the wires going to the switches or the switchboard itself. Get out the multimeter and start checking the switches.

I've had horrible luck with xecuter 2.6 CE chips. i have had one shipped to me defective and one other just quit on me after about 2 hours. I suggest using x3. It has a very low failure rate. If they are to expensive aladdin makes some surprisingly good chips for cheap.
