heres a guide to what hard drives are compatable
http://xboxdrives.x-pec.com/?p=list
you dont need a bigger fan you just bump up the xbox fan it running at 20% bump it up to 50% or higher or lower depends on temp a round xbox and place it in well vented area not stack in a tv stand with the doors closed
you will have to use x2 config to bump up speed
x2 config is a file thats comes with the x2 5035 bios
open it with notepad on your pc and change this

eg
; flubber animation number, 0 - 14
flubberAnimationNumber = 2

; speed of xbox fan, value 10 equals 20%, value 50 equals 100%
fanSpeed = 20

; display flubber blob in wireframe mode
flubberWireFrame = 0

; display the TM logo
displayTmLogo = 1

20 you change this number in the config file to 25 =50%

then save then ftp x2config to E:/ folder of xbox

you change the x2 config file then ftp it to your xbox placeing it in the E:/ folder when your bios boot it looks for this file and go off the setting on it
down load AUTO INSTALLER DELUXE 3 need it to setup new hard drive
when you get nettwork up (ftp to xbox) copy your C:/ and E:/ to your pc burn to a dvd and put somewere safe

now unlock old hard drive hard drive useing flashbios unlock H/D option
power down xbox unplug it from wall
remove old hard drive place new one in with the jumper setting set to cable-select

place AID3 into xbox dvd tray reboot xbox you will see
AID3 boot
AID3 will load
hilite format/prepare HHD push A button
hilite format largeHHD push A
pick yes
now after it done that 30 sec or more or less
push B till you get back to the first screen on AID3
hilite install MS dash push A
it will install the ms dash
go back to start again
now after that hilite install hack dashboards push A
hilite install E drive dashboards push A
now you have to pick a dash you wish to run
avalaunch is good and xbox media center is great
it up to you
hilite dash you wish to install push A
then hilite larger HHD(E+F) push A
it will start installing dash after finshing reboot xbox with out AID3 in and see if it boots to your hacked dash if not you have to now tell your bios were to look for it
go back into config file again
and put the dash you installed to the top of the list as well as change the C:/ to E:/
eg

x2 config before you change it

; 255 characters max here, format is <drive>:<path_to_xbe>.xbe, e.g. "f:dashes\avalaunch.xbe"
; keep all paths lowercase just in case you have any issues with dashboards booting
dash1Name = c:evoxdash.xbe (change this if not your dash you picked)
dash2Name = c:avalaunch.xbe
dash3Name = c:unleashx.xbe
dash4Name = c:xbmc.xbe
dash5Name = c:xboxdash.xbe

this x2config is set to boot to XBMC dash

this is what my x2 config looks like

; 255 characters max here, format is <drive>:<path_to_xbe>.xbe, e.g. "f:dashes\avalaunch.xbe"
; keep all paths lowercase just in case you have any issues with dashboards booting
dash1Name = e:
xbmc.xbe
dash2Name = c:avalaunch.xbe
dash3Name = c:unleashx.xbe
dash4Name = c:evox.xbe
dash5Name = c:xboxdash.xbe

do the fan speed as well then save it
then ftp it to E:/ folder of xbox now reboot xbox it should boot to dash

Make sure that you use XBTool to modify your BIOS for LBA48 support and to manage the partitions if you are going to install a hard drive larger than 137GB
