I was wondering if it might be possible to expand the format function to allow a custom sized f drive. I realize the reason it's 137gb is is for lba48 support. But since we've overcome that hurdle would it be possible to say make F: 200Gb and the have a 25 or 50gb G:. Also if this could be added could you guys also list the start block for the partitions.

In case you're wondering why in the hell I would want to do this here's why. I just recently learned that I can modify the intall of Gentoox MCE to start it's native install from a given start block. This is usefull if you have your drive set for 137Gb F: and the remainder as G:. You just change the start block in the install script from 15633072 the bgining of F: to 268435457 the beginning of G: if F: is 137Gb. This means you still have you're 137Gb F: Partition free for xbox applications and the linux native partition goes in the remaining area. While that is great I have a 250Gb drive and I don't need 100Gb for MCE when I can write all of my media to my FATX partitions.

There are lots of people out there wanting to run MCE without having to give up there other xbox software and this could really help .

Also if anyone out there knows another way to make a custom sized partition or if it's not possible please let me know.

I've noticed XBPartitioner does just what I'm asking for here. But if it could be integrated into the bios that would be awesome

I have basically the same needs that you described. I got ahold of xbpartitioner, seems to have the functionality that I'm looking for. One problem, once I modify the partition table and save the changes, it formats the partition and all looks good...I can even drop back into the dashboard and save files to the newly custom sized F:

However, after a reboot the partition table get's changed (by the X3 bios I think). I have tried all the LBA48 options in the BIOS, nothing I choose will allow the partition table changes that I made stick. I read that xbpartitioner support was added to X3 via an option in X3 Config Live whereby you can tell the BIOS which partition table to load from, the one in ROM or the one on disk...I can't find that option in X3 Config Live (X3 1959).

What do I need to do to have the system respect the partition table changes that I make with xbpartition? (btw I'm using xbpartition v1).

thanks

Just noticed this myself today

this is a real pain when trying to do a native linux install b/c the X3 bios rewrites the partition table over the native install they will both work for a while but they will eventuall corrupt each other. As far as a switch in X3 config live I don't know I'll take a look around and see if I can find anything else. Shame I haven't gotten a response on the request guess linux users are bottom of the barrel on priority.

I think this means we are SOL unless team xecuter decides our feature request is worthy of notice and changes things to allow a custom partition table or to set partition sizes in the x3CL what a pain
