I totaly agree. If your not going to take the time to learn the commands DON"T do it. This is not a process to take shortcuts unless you want a dead xbox.

To be fair - there is a lot to be said for using command line - however - for those that know the processes using command line - i see no harm in benefitting from a nice easy GUI if it works well. Even multibuilder has had its share of flaws. these things are only as good as the people that write them and dependant on how many available units they have to test on. then you compound the problem by adding an enduser!

As long as there is support for these GUI's and reasonable instructions - i dont see the harm in it.

If guys want to improve things for others - all power to them! but as with all things in this scene - use at your own risk!

Personally I don't mind if people want to use JTAG_Tool. However I think we could all benefit if they directed all support to the official JTAG Tool thread in future....

All being said and done... How many noobs have used the wrong sign (+ instead of - or - instead of +), Jtag tool wont do that wrong... unless coolshrimp does...

GUI environments just make it seem simple and then the noobs f**k up.... But still i reackon if there is a GUI in place there is some level of protection (like it will read nand instead of accidently write!! W and R are very close to each other!!)

And a perfect example of this is jungleflasher - where would we be without this? How many people still use dosflash rather than jf? (i know it's unrelated to rgh but you see my point)

My reply would be 'in a world with not so many fecked Xbox drives'.

My issue is (and always will be) with GUI applications is you can do a LOT of damage without knowing anything. This applies to ALL GUI apps, so don't think I'm picking on any one. I trained in a Windows environment (MCSE) but now work with Solaris\Unix platforms, where everything is scripted and command line. Take a guess how many people mess around with servers with just a flashing cursor???

Yeah, JF, JTAG Tool etc all make our lives *easier*, but that's all it should be. It should *never* replace the understanding needing to carry out most of the steps manually if you need to. If *half* the people having issues with JF/JTAG Tool etc actually stopped to think about what they were doing, this place wouldn't have to be so heavily moderated as they wouldn't be in so much of a mess to begin with. As with most excitable youngsters (or old'uns in some cases), the temptation to dive in head first is all too tempting.

Agreed, I started my first RGH (My own) using Jtag Tool, but could not get it going.

So now i use Multibuilder to build ECC. But always use command Line to write the nand out.

It is so much easier, and reliable

I couldnt agree with you more on the points you made, it's always good to have a good solid knowledge of the manual way to do these things. I'm not sure about jtag tool cause i have never used it (nandpro and xebuild for me) but as i'm sure you know, jf does a damn good job of preventing f**kups, in fact, unless you know advanced commands within the tool, it wont allow you to f**k up without very good warning :)

Warnings are one thing, but the ability to get rid of them is too easy.

"Do you want to continue?"
<click>
"are you sure?"
<click>

The most seasoned of idiots have mastered the ability to ignore the most severe warnings with a single click of the button.
