Tomb Raider "Making of" reveals demon giants, horseback combat, girl companion

We already knew that this year's Tomb Raider reboot wasn't always a "gritty", down-to-earth survival story. We knew that Crystal discarded a number of ideas during development - most notably a young female companion for Lara, possibly modelled on the likes of Yorda from ICO and Trip from Enslaved. But the below screenshots and prototype video footage from the game's Final Hours documentary are a shock nonetheless. Building-sized demons, Crystal? Dinosaurs not sensational enough for you, then? And why are all the smaller monsters off-cuts from Silent Hill?
The video also reveals an earlier build of Lara that's closer to the saucier, less politically correct heroine of the original series. Hit the image to start the gallery, and by all means let us know which version you'd rather play, given the choice. This interview with creative director Noah Hughes about Tomb Raider's future may interest, too.
