Too quick to flash...

So I installed an X3 for a friend in a crystal today, went really great until I got flash happy

I flashed 3029 in 1-4 and 5-8, flashbios was 3.0.1 so I figured I'd update that to 3.0.3 so I uploaded the image to the C\BIOS, then flashed the banks 1-8 and the backup bios.

Luckily I must have missed one because besides 5-8 all I get now is the black screen, orange LED after a while.

Now why I don't think the lpc point 13/14 applies is because all did work, and now one bank still works with 3.0.3/3029, I'm more inclined to think the flash image is bad because the switch I used in that ftp upload is a known bad switch. Should I reflash backup and banks 1-4 with 3.0.3 or 3.0.1?

If it was my own I'd just start playing/flashing, but I'd like to send him something to do without worrying about hotflashing with my own.

Boot your 3.0.3 Bank.

When the Light turns orange (blank screen), press the eject button.

Once it stops flashing press it again.

Keep doing this and you should get the FlashBIOS screen up.

If you read the FlashBIOS download notes, it says there's a known problem with 3.0.3 and 1.6 Xboxes. If FlashBIOS 3.0.1 works fine (which it does), then stick with that. There was no need to reflash FlashBIOS anyways since you had a working system. Remember if it ain't broke, don't fix it.

I can boot to one bank fine. I just screwed up the others and the backup bank for him

Can I boot to the one bank and reflash 3.0.1 to all banks and carry on as if I didn't f-it up in the first place?

So 3.0.1 is the safest for the 1.6's... thanks again.

You can boot from the working BIOS and switch to the non working BIOS and put the latest X3 BIOS on there for him. From there, you can go into X3CL and reflash the backup BIOS with 3.0.1.

And yes - stick with 3.0.1 on the 1.6

Wow... as I'm going to get the 3.0.1 image for him it couldn't be much clearer that 3.0.3 just isn't for the 1.6s. Just when I thought there was nothign else to read...

My first 1.6... and my friend, also my boss... a few tence moments there.

As documented, 3.0.3 is for 1.0-1.6b (not 1.6)

3.0.1 is for 1.6.

However, I've always managed to get 3.0.3 on a 1.6 working by using the eject button as described.
