GENERAL Top Three Tips for Flashing Drives

there are alot of Noobs using this forum (like me) and I think this would be a great place for the experts to share their knowledge.

If you could tell a noob three key points thay must do when flashing a dvd drive, what would they be?

It can relate to extracting dvd keys, power cycles, storing data, verifying drive keys at the end; anything you think is a must do!

JungleFlasher pretty much automates the process, if you have a CK3i then everything is automated (unless you need to probe of course ;)).

The one thing I will stress (for future reference) is to ALWAYS revert your drive back to stock firmware before updating the console's dashboard.

I know the tuts say to use a molex power supply to power the ck3i but mine came with a usb to molex adapter and an extra mini usb to usb cable to power the drive. I was able to do some flashing but tray would not open and a hit 79 dvd cd would not play.
I sent it back for a replacement from my dealer thinking it was bad, anyway I got the new one and used a powered molex power supply and the thing works like a charm!
I was new to these devices and just figured they wouldnt sell you a power supply that didnt work properly, or at least tell you it may not work and sell you a power supply for it or to hook to spare molex in the pc.. I guess I should of tried it from a spare molex in the pc first... dohhhhh

1) Use Windows XP 32-bit for flashing. Jungleflasher seems to like it.
2) Get the TX kit. It makes life much easier!
3) Keep backups of your dvd key! I find a sticker on the bottom of the metal cage with the dvd key and osig to be a good idea.

I set my netbook up with winxp because I got sick of disabling driver sig enforcement.

That was before I got an x360usb pro though. :)
Love Windows XP(It's the coolest & easy operating system that i ever seen) but so sad:frown: M$ ending support(Of XP) !

if you mean you couldnt open the tray while trying to flash then the explanation is simple.if the tray wouldnt open after the flashing was done then thats another story

far as I know you can not eject the drive tray with a usb power because the usb power has 5v and you need 12v for eject(molex adapter would work).if i am wrong please correct me.
