Hi all,

Before i get a roasting i have searched everywhere and read 100's of pages on installing a dashboard and i think this is what has caused me to become confused. I am getting info overload!

Basically I would like to install a dashboard so i can upgrade my HDD & save games onto the HDD. Using the simplest method possible as what i want seems to be basic compared to what dashboards can do.

Please can someone direct me to a decent tutorial that shows this step by step.

btw i have a 1.4/1.5 box with a x2.6 everything else stock! oh and running x4983 (although i cannot remember whther it was 4983.06 or 4983.(the other one) i know it makes a difference as to the size of the HDD upgrade so if someone could enlighten me on this it would be appreciated.

Cheers

If you decide to run Avalaunch, it's super easy comparable to want we've had to do in the past (As along as you have a router that you can hook your XBOX to). Get Avalaunch throw the dash (Avalaunch.xbe, Avalaunch.xml) on the root C: directory via FTP. From there when Ava launches as the dash you can go to the settings option to download certain apps that you need to backup to the HDD (DVD2XBOX)!!!

actually, he can't ftp the dash up with a 2.6 unless he has a dash.
(Then again I've got a 3, so I really don't know that for sure, but I HAD a 2.3 which I hear is basically the same)

There's a few options. The best in my opinion is get the Slayers Install disk through "the usual places". That way you burn it to the appropriate media and it'll install Avalaunch and other stuff too. In fact Slayer's has all the M$ stuff too, so once you get a new HD in it'll take care of the rest.

And of course, in case "the usual places" is too cryptic...

Yup it's still possible to FTP to your box w/o a dash, because you still have an FTP server going through the BIOS... And I hope that atleast a Bios is on there, might be taking too much for granted...

well..the 4983 bios does not have a built in ftp server. He would have to make a boot disc first then ftp over his files.

When you load a disc in the drive it looks for a default.xbe file. If none is found it loads the M$ dash.
So if you want to make a boot disc you change the *.xbe file to default.xbe burn it to a disc and walla you have a boot disc.

In this case you would change the avalaunch.xbe to default.xbe. Read the tutorial on the home page here titled "how to make xbox discs".

If you have the evolutionX 3935 files change evoxdash.xbe to default.xbe for a evox boot disc. It's all very easy.

Start the xbox with the disc in the drive and your dash will run. Then you will have the FTP server you need to use FlashFXP and send over the files you want.

Slayer is OK but you now have all the information you need to do it yourself.

look for New HD Install on XBINS in irc follow the directions all u got to do is copy the .rar file extract it to a folder and then burn the contents on a disc

if you have X3 chip and another modded XBOX connect to it with FTP and copy Cdrive and Edrive and FTP it to the new HD that you have and formatted using X3 config live

verry easy just hard to figure out

post again if youcant figure it out and I will explain a little more
