Well, i have managed to pull 2 traces on my Xbox board. I got the HDD and LAN leads soldered just fine, but when it came to the d0 point, all went south.

Basically, the d0 seemed to be "absorbing" the heat from the soldering iron. I assume negative contacts tend to do this. But, because of my "I can do it" attitude, I managed to pull the contact pads for the d0 and point right above it, completely off. The little "pads" (about the size of this -> . <- ), came off on the tip of my iron. Now I am sitting with to broken traces, and NO ONE in my are will attempt to fix this.

I have read about the defogger kit fix, but it this the only real viable solution?

Did I f.u.b.a.r my board to the point of needing replacement?

Any help is apperciated.

Well, I found the required parts at Radio Shack- however, now that I am about to fix my orginal d0 point and since I am using a "Tracer Pen", I will not be able to attach my wire to that point. Do I need to use the top d0?

Is it possible to attach the d0 wire to one of the "vias" that are on the d0 trace?

Also, I picked up some soldering paste, and was wondering if this would be easier than trying to get a wire/soldering iron tip/solder, into that microscopic via point. The paste states it is 10,000 (ten thousand) times stronger than regular solder. All you do is apply some paste, put wire on paste, then apply heat. It is supposed to melt into shiney solder with flux all around.

Does them seem like an alternative to roasting another trace pad.

I managed to get it fixed

Here is how it was done and with what:

"Snap Blade" small utility knife (99cents @ Radio Shack)
Conductive pen (12.99 @ Radio Shack) (returnable ;) )
Electrical tape (free -misc)
Windex (free -misc, repalcement for isopropyl alcohol)

I just scraped some of the top green "stuff" off the pcb. Exposed the traces, and then masked them off accordingly. Rubbed the pin over the above mentioned grooves. Removed tape and rubbed entire groove with Windex. This cleaned off all the surounding conductive pen material, but left the groove filled. Reinstalled everything, and it fired right up

Now I just need to figure out what medium the damn Thompson will read
