transferred HD to modded system and asking for update, safe?

I have 2 360's and just swapping the hd for saves. My elite is legit with live, and my old pro (march 2006) is used for backups and hasn't been on Live since modding it. Just recently I started to get the rlod on the modded one, but it's rare. I figured i would get it sooner than later considering the number of hours played since mar 2k6.

Anyways swapping the hd between the two works, except for one thing I just encountered tonight.

The live update on my elite sytem copied information to the hd, so when i plugged in the hd to my modded system it's now asking for an update. Games of course won't work without the update, so I copied my profile from the hd to a memory card and unplugged the hd. Rebooted, no updates is asked, and backups work now.

I did so the hd won't mess up my flash if indeed it has something in the update i don't want, especially when the update mentions security issues.

So has anyone installed the update via hd to their modded system with no problems?

I'm wondering now if M$ is putting info on the hard drives to affect any console the drive is plugged into

btw im running xtreme 5.3 fw

i would go to the new ixtreme firmware.other than that ive not heard of a update game or console that has messed up a modded 360

ok a post from another site looks like M$ has implemented someway of detecting backups via hard drive now with latest update.

i'm surprise this issue hasn't been widespread but then again maybe it doesn't effect the latest mod fw's

I'm still running extreme 5.3 because it works and don't need to be online on that system.

ive took all the updates for game and console. so far ive not had a problem

I have done all updates my 360 has asked for, I am still playing all my back-ups on live just fine. However I am useing the latest iXtreme Firmware on my samsung drive.

ok thx for replies, i'll go ahead and update via hard drive.
The worst that can happen is backups not reading anymore, therefore i'll flash back to original / try out latest mod fw.
