Trim/partition SD Emunand?

Hi there,

I'm now using SX OS for few weeks and find it fantastic, took me a while to read and understand everything about it to make sure not to make a mistake.
As I got my switch end of November, I got a clean dump of my NAND and used the hack only on SD emunand, so that nand stays clean of anything that could get me banned. The point is to allow me to play online on free games, or purchased game, even though I didn't do it yet.

The slight problem with SD Emunand is that it use a huge space, and as I'm using only XCI most of that space is lost. Please don't say use NSP, as I use XCI so I can just drag in and out games I want or don't want anymore. I even include games updates and DLC to my XCIs using NSC builder.

As you used to partition the NAND to put Emunand on it, I believe it is doable and I guess the code to do such thing on SD card should be basically the same ?

Thanks :)

That's not the question, no matter the capacity of the card, 29GB is still a lot when it could be like 8 or even 4.
For now I have a 128 which I believe isn't that small.

I could install some games I will always keep on the console, let's say, Zelda, Mario Kart, etc and install them as NSPs. There's always possibilities, but the best would just be to reduce the empty partition of the nand :)

Is is an exact copy of the system nand. Free space and all. There is no way as of now to change the size. A bigger SD card will give you a ton more space and are not very expensive or you could even go the external hdd route if you play a lot while the switch is docked. It maybe be an opinion to adjust the size of emunand later on, but right now there is none that I know of. Since it is not an option when creating the emunand it makes me think there is a reason they don' allow you to or it's just not a priority to add that option right now.

It's nothing more than a partition on a system file, you could just cut the empty space.
That's basically what is done on the real NAND when they add the Emunand on it, they cut in 2 and it works fine.

My post is a feature request, I know it's not possible right now.

I don't believe they cut the sysnand though. If they did your total space would go down and you have have what looks like a smaller nand and an "invisible" partition with on it emunand or you would simply have 2 paritions on the sysnand. When I had my emunand on my sysnand, I still 1 had 32gb or whatever it was after formatting total, then used space which was the emunand. Unless that has changed with the newer SX version. I use it on my SD card now just for simplicity if I mess it up.

I admit I didn't do the NAND emunand so I'm not sure, but what I've read is that you had 2 15GB partitions, isn't that right ?

Not unless it changed in the most recent update. When they first introduced it I don't recall my nand shrinking in size other than the fact that it had data on it from the emunand.

i saw sh*tposts like "BUY A BIGGER CARD" and i decide to react

the only way (as for now) to have a smaller emunand on SD card is to first create new one on NAND (choose size, minimum is 10gb, its way enough for save games) then using migration option move it to the sd card.
its pain in the ass as for now, but it works
i hope Xecuter team will let as resize our emunand's soon ;)
cheers

Thanks xFlesk, I kind of felt alone here ! :D
And your post confirm what I thought, that you can actually choose the EMUNAND size when it's on original NAND, so if they know how to do it there, it wouldn't be a so hard work to port it to SD Emunand.

That just would be a nice feature to see in the coming updates, it's not a hurry, as said, 128GB SD + HDD is already plenty of memory, but when there's ways to optimize, why not do it

I have started with 64gb. 200GB is OK.
Remember to trim you XCI files and/or use @xFlesk method.
Otherwise I still hold to my sh*tpost and ...buy a bigger card.
