Tripple reboot FRAG problem

Ok, first off I have read every question on this site to try and answer my problems and many situations are sililar but not exact.

I have a v1.3 box with an xecuter 2.6 chip done the hard solder way. The flashing and all that went fine. I had the xbox up and running for about 6 months then one day I tried to play a game and it would triple reboot every time I tried to turn it on. So having modded many of xboxs (at least 30) I took it apart to see what I could find. I used the trial and error to find the problem and when I put a new switch on (from another box) it booted up and worked fine. I thought I had the problem solved. I turned it on and off many times to make sure it was dependable. No problems. I then went on to ftp some more games and movies which went just fine. The new material loaded fine, everything worked. The next day I took it to a friends house and when I got there the box was triple rebooting again...WTF I said to myself. So I tried the old swith and still nothing. After getting it home and trying to find the problem again I can't. Tried brand new switches (yes more than 1) and that didn't work. So I started hitting up the forums trying to see what else it could be I read that it isn't the d0 point and is most likely the the lpc. So I got my multimeter out and did a cont. test on all the pins in the lpc all with a reading of 0. So I think that would rule out the lpc espically since it was working with no problems for 6 months. I also test the the other wires (the 3, red, green, grey) and that seemed to be just fine too. So I had my brother bring over his v1.0 with the xecuter 2.6 (same as mine) with the solderless adapter. I tried his chip (which works flawlessly in his) on mine and it still gave me a triple reboot so i figured the problem wasn't my chip but when trying my chip in his box, his then did a triple reboot which made me think that it had nothing to do with the lpc and that my chip may have gone bad somehow. put his chip back into his and his works fine again. I ordered 2 new 2.6CE's one for me and one for a friend's box. Tried the new chips in the xboxs and the one that I had just modded (hard solder same as mine, I was the one soldering) booted up with no problems using the new chip. So to test my old chip again I put it into this xbox and it triple reboots the same as mine. I try the new chip in my box and still get a triple reboot...wtf? So I have an xbox v1.3 with a 160Gig hdd that will boot up perfectly and run flawlessly with the chip disabled. With the chip enabled it goes to the triple reboot again. I've tried a chip that i know works for sure (my bros), one that might work (my old one, but it wouldn't work on my bro's so maybe it did go tits up), and a brand new one, all of which triple reboot in my xbox. Now I've read everywhere and people always say check your install....I have, more times than I can count using the multi meter doing a cont. test and it seems to check out just fine because I get a reading of 0 on all the pins. I haven't heard of anyone else with this problem and haven't had it with any other xbox.

My motherboard isn't dead, it boots up fine with the chip off.
My chip may be dead but the brand new one will triple reboot too.
My d0 point tests out ok and from what I have read isn't the problem cause it would even get to triple reboot if the d0 was installed incorrectly.
My switch works with my bros chip so it should be just fine, and even the 2 brand new ones i have.
So I keep testing the LPC but don't find problems and why/how would the soldering have gotten messed up when the thing worked fine for 6 months and stopped working without me opening anything or tinkering with anything espically when I put a new switch on and it worked for a day then stopped again.

I'm at a loss of ideas and fixes. What is my problem???

How do you have the wires running to your switch? You may have pinched a wire when putting the controller ports back in. Try running a test on those wires to see if it is shorting out or broken under the insulation.

I've tried 5 different switches and only the original is the one that goes under the controller port. besides my chip doens't work on an xbox that has a known working switch or with 2 of the brand new ones. I wish it was that simple.

my xbox is doing the same thing. a versoin 1.3 with xecuter 2.6. i can not get it figured out for the life of me. i have not installed any of the wires for the hdd or lan lights. it worked to flash the bios, but then it never turned back on the right way it just reboot 3 times. i accidentally overwritten the bios with a 1meg file. is there anyway to reflash the chip with flashbios without buying a programmer. thanks

sweet, the subject is getting changed. My problem has nothing to do with the bios. but thanks for going way off track.

Calm down. When you say hard solder, do you mean pin header or wire install? If pinheader, is it possible the chip shorted on the DVD drive? Had the Xbox been sitting for a while when this happened, or did it just happen with regular use?

Pin header, and i'm not sure how long it was sitting without use not more than a week or two, but I had the sticky deal that comes with it(to mount to the side of the box) on the top so if you mean shorting by touching the bottom of the dvd drive than I doubt it cause it had the insulator between it. Also a brand new chip that hasn't been flashed yet or anything or even my bro's chip won't work in mine. I'm not too worried about the fact that my chip may have gone bad but when a known working one and a brand new one won't work it makes me wonder what the hell could have happened.

BTW...Fantmx thank you for throwing ideas my way, hopefully it will someday work again.

Hey, it's a long shot but try taping the bottom of the LCP port. I know that you mentioned your box works fine without the chip enabled but I've seen with my own eyes how taping up the bottom seemed to do the job. The only difference was that my box would still FRAG without the chip enabled (or even installed).

Hi Zmoney, Had the same problem with my Xbox, was working fine for about a 2 weeks and then on-off 2 time then fraged. Then it would intermitently work. I had a friend lookat it, and I gave him the xbox without the power cords, because he had all the power cords and controllers. He pluged it up and the xbox worked without a problem. We belive it is a problem with the power cord, not providing the correct power to the xbox. Try your brothers power cord on your system and see if that does the trick. My power cord was a replacment from Xbox, because the original power cord was causing it to overheat. Hope this solve your problem. Later Mike
