Trouble with Hitachi "Unplayable Disc"

recently purchased a box online, seller provided picture showing Samsung Drive, and said it had recently been repaired by M$ for the 3 flashing red light error. Got it, played it a few days, found out it actually has Hitachi 0047dj, flashed it anyway following Textbook's tut to a T using latest FW Gary 2.3 rev2 I'm pretty sure. everything went fine and dandy as in the tut the first time, now have modded drive and back up of orig FW as well as the key for the drive, but when going to play a friends back up that worked on their box (T-S ms25), I get "Unplayable Disc". The system still runs as before, plays originals no problem, but not back ups.

When disc spins I hear it read, but then it sounds like it isn't sure and starts going back and forth every second until it just stops and waits to be taken out.

My friend's drive had open tray error so they used a twisty band trick to solve it. After reading on that it said Hitachi are known to have the same problem. Tried it for mine (except with a piece of plastic to trigger the switch earlier), and varied the thickness until I determined it was not a solution. Made the problem worse, and I think it even put the drive in Mode B as it took 2 presses to close the drive. Removed the plastic and everything went back to before (drive not in Mode B).

I've barreled through every forum, tut, and article I could find, but none of them hit this problem on the head. I have tried all tricks I could find like soft restarts and loading originals in any number of order possible to no avail. I didn't go into detail about the flash, but it went perfectly along with Textbook's tut (VIA 6421) which is why I'm pretty surprised I have this issue. Read in one place, Unplayable disc is a problem with the media, but it was tested using numerous backups that are proven to work.

I guess my question is, am I screwed? Could this be do to the recent M$ repair on the box (which I believe, but will know for sure soon, that they replaced the dvd drive during repair)? I don't see how it could, the drive's date is around late 2005. Has anyone else had the Unplayable disc error with a 0047dj? If there is no solution, could the dvd drive be replaced with a T-S since I have the key and have seen programs to put the Hitachi key in T-S FW (as an extreme last resort)? but I have not seen anyone mention a successful swapping of dvd drive brands.

I have read many of the posts and responses on this site and know that if there is a solution, its here. Any help would be greatly appreciated and Thanks in advance If I get any. Till then, I'll be sweetly content with my originals.

It's the media / burn / speed / drive laser .. etc.. problem.

Just because a backup works in one drive doesn't mean it will work in another. Different drives like different media. Your best bet is to get some Verbatim DVD+R DL, bitset to DVD-ROM, and burn at 2.4x using ImgBurn or CloneCD.

If that doesn't work, try cleaning the laser or pot tweak or getting a new laser / new drive.

samsung is capable of reading much more burned games then hitachi... for example single layer dvd xbox1 games without security sectors work fine on my unit.

Try the Ridisc DVD+R DL never had one bad burn using these and work 100% with Hitachi drives.
