Hey guys,

I'm working on a falcon thats being a real pain. I have another thread here if you need pics of soldering. Starting a new thread since it's a different problem and to keep the thread easy to follow.

To sum it up

Had ROL problems, fixed them.
Flashed back original nand and played a while with it to test, no problems at all.
Flashed jtag nand again and I'm now stuck at POST 79 - Load XAM and one blinking red light.

Here's the rater log

Did you try all settings combination and different voltage. This is common hence the need to fine tune.

No I didn't, I thought that the fine tuning settings were just for the glitch timing, isn't it? Because my glitch-time is pretty constant, around 2-3 glitches. I can also mention that rater interprets the xbox as successfully glitched as it begins shutdown countdown when it reaches post 79

Thanks to change the smc power setting, do I load the original nand dump in jrunner --> go to tools --> msc config editor --> edit to say 8080 --> save --> load the _edited nanddump --> build xebuild image --> flash to xbox. Correct?

I think my JR Programmer is giving up on me too, or it's my pc? I often have trouble to read or write to nand, but sometimes it works... will try again tomorrow.

OP - disregard all other replies. This is what happens when people chime in who don't have a clue what they're talking about.

"Flashed jtag nand again and I'm now stuck at POST 79 - Load XAM and one blinking red light."

This is E79. In short, your DIP / Voltage setting on the R-JTAG is fine. The issue is with the JTAG portion of the installation. Make sure you ticked AUD_CLAMP during the xell creation if you're using AUD_CLAMP wiring. To recap - leave your R-JTAG as is. Do NOT mess with SMC Config has it's NOT the problem.

I have never had one get that far on the rater if the jtag wiring was messed up, and considering they never gave a secondary error code, or anything...... I have seen consoles freeze because of bad powermode settings on rgh, before the boot animation though. I didnt see the rrod part though.

Thanks Martin C,

I can't see any bad soldering, so I thought I'd use your "Troubleshooting NAND-x errors" guide, but I can't seem to find my multimeter, will buy a new one and report back the numbers.

Thanks.

It's nothing to do with NAND-x - it'll be your JTAG stuff. Get a Multimeter and check the TMS/TDI points (J2D2.1 & J2D2.2) on the board against GND. They should be 1.5k each.

Also check the diodes on the QSB aren't the issue.

Thanks Martin C, will check that as soon as I get my hand on a multimeter.

Do you mean the diodes on the JTAG alt v2 QSB?

Yes... Did your values measure to 1.5k as Martin asked?

Oh I see you don't have a multimeter yet... Definitely a must have when troubleshooting

I had a nice multimeter =) but I think someone borrowed it and I can't remember who, I asked the most likely friends, but they say they didn't :(

So I'll just have to buy a new one I guess

I'll report back as soon as can

Ok, so I finally got a dmm, the j2d2 1 and 2 read 1.55k each

The diode closest to the solder jumper on the qsb shows a value of 1344 / 419

The other one shows 1290 / 408

Set the QSB switches to ON / 0

JTAG_checks.jpg

You should have continuity between the coloured points as in the pic. You should NOT have continuity between different coloured points.

Ok, so I checked and nothing seems right :(

I have nothing on the diodes, but I have continuity on all points on the right side of the qsb (even different colors) blue is the only one that has continuity (except that it also has it with different colors)

I also checked continuity from topside of MB to solderpoint on QSB, all four points have continuity. Should I try to resoldering anyway?

Thanks for the guide Martin C,

I noticed that you wrote that the QSB switch should be ON in the guide, but OFF in the post above. When I reported the values in my last post I had the switch in OFF position.

I now tried it with the switch in ON position and this is what I get:

orange to orange 0 ohm resistance
green to green 0 ohm resistance
blue to blue 0 Ohm resistance

right side points
orange to blue (both blue points) 1.49k Ohm resistance
green to blue (both blue points) 1.49k Ohm resistance

-------------------------------------------------------

orange right side point to green diode 2.98k Ohm
green right side point to orange diode 2.98k Ohm

Jumper setting on 330 Ohm shows 271 Ohm
Jumper setting on 470 Ohm shows 361 Ohm

-----------------------------------------------------------

Diodes

I have the dmm in diode mode

with the switch in ON position I get 1206 / 346 on the diode closest to aud_clamp point
with the switch in ON position I get 1310 / 337 on the diode closest to the on/off switch

with the switch in OFF position I get OL / 346 on the diode closest to aud_clamp point
with the switch in OFF position I get OL / 346 on the diode closest to the on/off switch

Apologies - it should be set to ON (so the points are active).

You only need to check the values as mentioned in the sticky. If all of these are good and match what's expected (and you're certain your JTAG wiring matches SMC type in J-Runner), you might be looking at a GPU reflow/reball/replace.

EDIT: I might need to expand on the sticky to indicate the expected values of the diodes on the QSB, just to make sure. You can eliminate these by getting 2 1N4148 diodes and soldering them in place, setting the main on/off switch to off.

Does this refer to if I ticked aud_clamp and rjtag when building the image? If yes, then yes I did, I checked the log.

the sticky mentions that there should be no continuity between different colors, should I interpret my measured resistance between colors as ok then, or do the values above show that something is wrong?

Could I try a different jtag method perhaps?

And as I mentioned previously, I'm having a hard time flashing and reading the nand, the jrp often gives me flash config 0x00000 errors, this must be due to some bad wiring, doesn't it? Or is the programmer just giving up on me?

I will buy a new set of diodes and try that as well. Out of curiosity, why should the switch be in off position while soldering the new diodes?
