Hey guys,

Would anyone be able to give me a couple tips on tuning CR4 XL installs for better glitch times? I find myself mindlessly trying different combinations without a proper idea of what the change in settings does. Also, I have no idea what's going on within the dips (what it represents). Any links or advice is greatly appreciated!

Use the default dips per the guide. You can then try the suggested dips for tuning as in the guide. Once you find the best results with the dips you can then select different postbit settings to see if improvements can be made. After all that, you can fine tune even more with caps.

There's very little tuning effort that goes into a CR4. With prior CRs there were tones such as wire length, routing, pain in the ass jumper settings, resistors, caps, etc. Those kind of tweaks could take hours. The CR4 should take very little effort to tune.

Sorry stucknvegas, I should've mentioned I'm not working on a console at the moment, just need tips for future installs. Although it is in regards to the experience I had with my Trinity install the other day:

Thanks Krafter. So find the right dips (starting from guide settings) then work with the postbit jumper, then fine tune with caps?

I do have a few other related questions though:

1. With caps, must they be soldered each time you try a different set-up or is it possible to have the cap make a connection by pressing it onto the CR4 contact points? I'm worried about damaging the CR4 by soldering and desoldering more than once.

2a. For Rater (hardware wise), is it as simple as adding the K wire and hooking up the CR4 to JRP v2 after the install?

2b. Will the optional power wire on the Demon affect the RATER function? Must it be desoldered first?

Thanks for the help!

That is OK I dont have full understanding as well !! I think as time goes on Uber Geek or one the members who helped with the testing of the CR-4
will give some more information on what the dips are doing I can just guess and say that the dips are timing just like before.I also was wondering about the post bit
adjustments are they the same as RJTAG 1.2-1.8 adjustments I did have one corona board that started slow on the default settings and I was able to tune it up with help of Rater
my settings were (dips-8- 2-)post bit 100-cap 20 Rater score 960

I am pretty sure that the dip switches are based on binary values: ON = 1 and OFF = 0.

From what I understand, the dip switches help to determine the timing of the glitch (we are dealing with nanoseconds for the reset pulse).

The dip switches alter it by one or two nanoseconds at either side of what we call the "CENTER" timing.

Every console is different which means the required timing for one console might be slightly different to another (this is why there are different dip switch combinations to try, especially for phat RGH2+).

Ubergeek stated in the guides that the CR4 has been tuned to the nth degree where n is probably the average.
