Here's a tutorial I made for all of you who want to do a DVD Window but don't want to risk messing up your XBOX or just wanted a tutorial to make it easier and better.
1: get to your dvd drive, unscrew the top metal piece off it. cut the sides with a hacksaw at halfway across the "disc" on top (the small metal disc thats under the sticker). Don't cut the disc! Now carefully bend the metal so that it just bends off from around the disc eventually, this is a much easier and neater way to get the metal off than cutting around the disc. Screw it back as it was when you've done this. WHATEVER YOU DO, DO NOT TOUCH YOUR EYES WHEN WORKING WITH METAL, SMALL SHARDS ARE EVERYWHERE! YOU DON'T WANT SHARDS IN YOUR EYES!!!! (I say this 'cos one of my art teachers got a shard in her eyes and had to go to eye infirmary, it took hours to get out and was very painful, and now she wears glasses.)
2: Now cut out the shape you want from your XBOX case lid so that you can see the dvd drive through it.
Now make a "window" from perspex/plexiglass or if you want to save money, a CD case. Cd cases crack very easily though. I recommend putting electrical tape on the clear stuff you use when cutting and sanding it because this prevents scratches and this tape is easy to remove, no residue, unlike sticky-tape.
For my window I did a rounded disc shape with the bottom part straight, (see photo attached).
If you want led's in your xbox case to light up the dvd, fit them now. You can see how I fitted mine in some of the photos attached. For the bottom one, i dremeled a small hole in the case to put the led in level with the others.
3: Now use electrical tape to make a ledge for your clear plastic window to rest in (to make it level with the case when you glue it there).
4: Place the window in the hole and press firmly to the electrical tape so that it is level with your xbox case's lid on the outside.
5: Tape up the inside of the window with electrical tape (to prevent getting glue on the middle of your window, although the glue I say to use dries clear so it won't be that noticable if you accidentally get some there) leaving a very small edge for the glue to be placed.
6: Use EVO-STIK wood adhesive to glue the window in place. This dries clear like plastic or glass so if your window has a few gaps, it will fill them up and look like part of the window so don't worry. Now while the glue is still wet, carefully and slowly peel the electrical tape off. Use a scalpel to pick and raise the tape from the middle of the window if necessary.
7: If you want, you can neaten the glue's edges with a damp piece of kitchen roll.
Put your XBOX back together, and now you have a cool (light-up) DVD Window.
