ANSWERED Tutorial Recommends Update to 7371 Before JTAG?

I've been reading some tutorials on other sites and one of them I found was that they recommended updating to the 7371 Dashboard via USB before doing the JTAG.

Is there any explanation as to why this was recommended?

My console I'm going to JTAG soon is on Dashboard 6690 Pre-NXE.

Is there a valid reason for me to update it to 7371 via USB or can I stay on 6690 and do the JTAG and use XBR and be on 8955 with no problems?

I'm just confused as to why it's recommended on some sites to update to 7371 via USB and I don't know if there's any good reason to do that.

if you plan on running freeboot you MUST upgrade to 7371 since the python script build the 9199 image based off a stock 7371 nand

xbr requires no update

Hi ive got the old blade dash, pre nxe, should I dump my nand first? then upgrade to 7371? Sorry if its a stupid question, I just want to get it right.

Update your console to 7371. Then dump your NAND. This dumped NAND will stay as a backup and then you can continue the process of Jtagging.

Cheers guys, thanx for answers. Ive got another Xenon, which I received from MS in January this year, as a replacement for a RROD. Its got a 7371 dash, Ive read somewhere that any replacments from MS are not JTAG-able, as the update they run on them has the hack patched, is this true? & if so, if I update my other Xenon to 7371, will it also be patched? Whats the difference in the update they do? Again, Im sorry if any questions are dumb, I just dont wana feck anything up.

1. if you update the other xenon to 7371 itll be fine.

2. m$ patch the cb i think so there 7371 is a non-exploitable version. the only way to know for sure is to dump the nand. if it was returned this year then id say its almost certainly not exploitable.

hope that helps. sorry if my explanation is wrong but i think they patch the cb.

Thanx guys for info & replys. Ok, where can I get a reliable 7371 update? one that dosnt have the CB patch. Also, what can I use to check the update to make sure it hasnt got any patches?

its recommended. i do it. but before, i didn't do it and it worked fine. so you can update and probably have a more stable jtag. or if you don't update, it will still work. win win situation
