i haveupgrade to a 160 gb from the original. i have a 1.0 xbox with x3 1959, i hope im writing this stuff right. anyways i know how to format and install it but i want to know if i can put the original files from the original harddrive on to the 160 gb hd without using ftp,can i plug it in to my pc and access these files and copy them there.and if so how would i burn them and can i burn it with nero, or is there some where i can find these files, i installed avaluanch with xbmc on the 160gb but im unable to use xbmc, ive tried to reinstall it several times with same out come.
i also installed this same thing on original hd and xbmc works great just no room for me to store my stuff.im thinking this is because i need some files from original hd for xbmc to work on my 160 gb

on my 160 hd when i power up xbox it goes straight to config live and i have to go down to boot dash in order to get avaluanch to come up, is there a way i can avoid x3 config live coming up on every power up and only to come up when i want it to........ thanks in advance

and yes i have read and searched and still i cant find a clear answer, thats why i posted this.

yes you can, and you must. dont ever start the xbox without the files from the stock hard drive there with the mod disabled. but here is what you need to do:

1. Start up the Xbox (mod enabled).

2. Set up the Hard drive (Disk tools -->New hard drive upgrade --> click here to set LBA48 option --> F drive get everything, no G drive).

3. Format the hard drive (Disk tools -->New hard drive upgrade --> Prepare and format new hard drive).

4. Once it is formatted transfer the files to your new hard drive (1 sec Im going to write another post for this)

To boot the Xbox straight into Avalaunch:

1. Turn on the Xbox (mod enabled)

2. Go into X3 Config Live

3. Go into Customize X3 Bios

4. Change Autostart X3 Config Live to enabled

5. Go into Dashboard boot priorty

6. Move Avalaunch.xbe to the top of the list

7. Make sure that the dashboard boot drive is C:

Before you continue into transfering the old file onto the new harddrive you need to lock it (you can still transfer files although it is locked).

To Lock:

1. Turn on Xbox (md enabled)

2. Go into Disk tools --> then Current hard drive setup

3. At the top it should say that yor hard drive supports locking (hopefully) if it does lock it by changing Hard drive Lock to enabled.

answer yes!!!
but I am not sure how to, Its called a hotswap (i think) and I think the drive needs to be unlocked for your PC to read it check the tutorials on xbox-scene.com first.

since u have an x3 u dont need to hotswap...the point of hotswapping is only because the hdd's are locked....with the x3 u can unlock it in x3cl and then take it out and put it in your pc....at that point you need a prog that will read the hdd...since its not in the standard ntfs or fat32 partioning format....so u can go to xbox-scene and download the necessary software for reading a stock hdd......but why dont u just ftp?

first off thanks michael816 and yourMOM.
the reason idont ftp is it because all my hours i spent trying have been in vain..... i have a ethernet port on my pc wich i plug my cable modem to, when i tried to hook up xbox imoved the cable modem to 1 of my usb ports with an adapter, i then plug a Cat5e network cable (radio shack told me this is i crossover cable, but the package mentions nothing of the sort) to the xbox and in to my eternet port and i get nothing.i think maybe its the cable but im not sure.one thing is for sure its gotten me alittle frustrated trying.......i may just have to go and invest in a router (that way i can use this frickin cable they sold me.) well if any body has any suggestions please share by the way im running win xp pro.

i did get avaluanch set to boot with out going into x3 config live, now i just need to get these files on to my new hdd so i can use xbmc, i like some of the features it has on it.....

xbox cutting off power

Hi,

I recently tryed fixed a rrod xbox. it has 3 red lights. i applied new thermal paste and removed xclamps and added screws with washers. Now what happens after i power on the xbox is the fan spins up for a couple seconds and then cuts out like the xbox has lost all power, yet it still blinks 3 lights and the heatsinks do not heat up. Any ideas?

Re: xbox cutting off power

I think this is because the pressure of the heatsinks either aren't tight enough, or too tight. Try adjusting the screws and washers.

Re: xbox cutting off power

Ok, will do. I made them pretty snug, not over tight but snug. Can you recommend the proper washers and screws maybe? I am using M5 washers and number 10 plastic washers.

Re: xbox cutting off power

Personally, I don't even use washers. I just do it by eye, and it seems to be working pretty effectively.

Also, I like in Canada and measuring screws and stuff is completely different here, so I don't know lol

The ones I use are part number 846-739 at home depot. :p

Re: xbox cutting off power

Welllllllllllllllll

It's a bit unorthodox I guess, I just put on the thermal paste, then screw in 4 screws, tighten them, then once they're all mostly in, I look at the gap between the heatsink and motherboard, and just do it by eye. The width is like.. well, a washer or two between. :p It's too hard to explain lol

Re: xbox cutting off power

Nice! I got the power back by loosening the screws a bit, but still flashing red lights.. Should i keep the fan unplugged and let it run a bit to overheat?

Re: xbox cutting off power

Any other suggestion to get this fixed? Do you have a tutorial at all to fix it? I cant seem to get the green power light to flicker as it is turning on, doesnt it usually do that? I can only get it to stay solid green for a couple seconds then 3 red lights appear. Help! =]

Re: xbox cutting off power

Ok the xbox is right down to the bare bones. I've cleaned off the heatsinks and the processors. Mind listing the steps next for me to take next?

Re: xbox cutting off power

Hey, sorry, been busy

Put on some thermal goop on the cpu/gpu, fasten down the heatsinks with the bolts, if you want to use washers it's really up to you, you don't have to. They're just there to help people with the spacing between the board/distribute the pressure better.

See if it turns on. If it dosn't, well you're going to have to try to reflow the GPU. Some people use heat guns, or a reflow station, but if you're just trying to do the el cheapo method.. take the fans and lay them so they're half on the dvd drive, half on the CPU heat sink, then turn on the 360 for say..25 minutes. Let it cool down for half an hour, then hopefully it'll work.

I don't recomend that method of reflow at all, personally I use a heat gun, and a reflow station would be even better (but very expensive). But hey it works for some people. For me, it usually works for a month, then craps out. But give it a try. lol
