GENERAL ULTIMATE Slim Trinity Flash Memory Mod

Slim Trinity RGH Flash Drive Memory Mod.

There are a few posts regarding this type of thing but I thought I would share my idea's and install methods. All Slim Trinity motherboards have the port and or points to install the 4GB Memory Module which comes on the 4GB Slim Trinity XBOX's, this 4GB Module is basically a USB flash drive itself however when you use this method you not only can use USB flash drives but also USB hard drives. The other benefit to tapping into these points internally (instead of USB flash drive externally) is that there is no limit on size.

Currently flash drives plugged into the XBOX are limited to 32GB (since 16197) but thanks to the internal mod you can run flash drives past 32GB and hard drives up to 2TB (haven't tested HDD's but I know they work). The storage is also seen as internal memory and not a flash drive so there are other benefits there as well.

The main reason I like this mod, especially on NON-4GB RGH/DemoN unit's is that you can run FSD/XeXMenu, etc off the memory mod and when you boot retail dashboard the storage isn't even seen, this could be beneficial down the road should these homebrew files ever be detectable when using XBL.

In this post I will focus on flash drive media / memory cards with two types of installs.

Install Note: Secure device to motherboard using hot glue, especially if using the stripped down flash drive.

1. USB Flash Drive
2. USB Micro-SD Card Reader (removable storage).

USB Flash Drive
When using a USB Flash Drive you are going to need to rip it down to it's core, remove the USB pins, shield, etc. This isn't necessary but it looks a hell of a lot better.

USB Micro-SD Card Reader

This is a USB Micro-SD Card Reader, you wire it the same way as a flash drive however you have the option of "removable media". You can use any MicroSD card you like. This is sorta "over kill" for this type of thing but cool none the less :)

Also to add a third option, in the same vein as the microsd reader, you can just chop the end off a USB extension and wire that to the back of the case as an extra port. Plug a hard drive in and bam, instant 'internal' storage without having to modify the external drive. Does require a bit of dremel work to the Slim's case but might be worth it for people who want 'internal' 1-2tb drives that can still be hooked to a PC via USB to transfer content.

Yeah I seen that USB external port on the back before for external HDD's (or flash drives too). If you have install pictures I can add them. However this method I posted using flash drive is 4 wires and is very cheap to do, (only costing the price of the flash drive itself), which are very cheap these days.

Real nice work. GhostFace606 on here had talked to me about trying this mod last year. But since you done all the nice work people can just follow your tutorial now. Aother thing that can be done is to remove the sata data and power port by removing the flat black screw and then use the USB attachment used on the small external hdd to make it an easier install. That way you can leave the hdd secured in its normal spot and not have to drill any holes. I imagine more people will do this being that it has a larger size ability than the hdd for people running stock nands and who play on live. You think its live safe, just curious?

USB extensions are cheap too ;) I'll get some pics when I do my next one, it's a pretty rare mod since nobody really reads about the option, I only offered it to a guy cause I got sick of trying to do TU/DLC/etc on an external drive for him. Thanks for posting a quick and easy guide for everybody, me included, as I never remembered which pins were data on that plug. I'm tempted to sniff the other two data lines, think they're serial for the authentication chip on the 4gb module, but I could be wrong.

I like the mod and I'm really liking this addition to the mod

Great ideas guys!!

You mod is actually my v2 of dual HDD setups. The first one I made an adapter that would allow me to switch between the internal and a 2TB external HDD connected by a custom e-sata port which registers as an internal as well.

The problem with this was I could only have one or the other HDD. The benefits to v1 over v2 is HDD size (until they make a 2TB 2.5" HDD), and sata/e-sata is faster than USB 2.0 (the new mod is cannot provide USB 3.0 speed). The main draw of this (besides form factor) is that you can transfer info between dual internal HDD's without extra hardware (USB device or PC).

For v2 I used a WD "My Passport" because it has USB 2.0/3.0 built directly onto the HDD.

I also connected it to a 3-position on/on/on dpdt for use with a dual NAND. I used power from the internal HDD giving me the option of which one or both HDD get power.

In order to get it to fit I modified the HDD "tray". I used a rubber band and rubber feet from the HDD tray to hold everything in place

It fit together pretty well and can confirm a 1TB HDD works.

Note: The 500GB USB 2.0 HDD showing the USB port is not the 1TB USB 3.0 HDD that is installed verifying up to 1TB (930GB free) HDDs work.

very clean install but this was done here: http://team-xecuter.com/forums/showthread.php?t=85491

and then I did it here: http://unmrkd.net/heavenlymodz/unca...nternal-mem-unit-showing-all-space-available/

I have since installed the 1TB HDD inside with the USB Adapter. I did this same mod also on my MW3 LE Console.

How would I connect it with the 4gb model so that the stock NAND does not see it. I'm sure I could use a relay to have it shut off when demon is off. Any suggestions as how to wire it correctly?
I have a diagram on how to do that exact thing on my link to my guide on how to do that with the Cygnos360 but Someone revised it recently for the Demon.

**EDIT** Found the link showing the revised relay setup: http://forums.xbox-scene.com/index.php?showtopic=744513

Yes I have seen this however what you have posted is a whole other animal as they say, it is also hard drives instead of flash drives. This requires a ton of work and modification which not everyone is capable of however with my setup anyone who can solder somewhat OK is good to go as my method is very simple (4 wires and a flash drive), cheap ($10-25), and effective.

Thanks antman1. I seen this before but I have not attempted it yet. I was hoping for a more simple solution similar to the one WNYConsoles was posting. I would think TX would have developed a PCB add on solution for those with Demon installs. Either way awesome work to everyone with dual Hdd solutions.

Pretty sure Xecuter's "WTF???" device is a dual hard drive solution so just wait for that, it will be superior to anything else.

On a 4GB unit where this would work on both DemoN/XBOX NAND I can't say it's XBL safe as they didn't make a 64GB memory unit built into a XBOX 360 :)

The "problem" in this case would be that the USB shows up as a memory unit unlike a flash drive that should show up as a storage device.

However, saying all that, I doubt it would ever be a problem. The nice thing would be to find where in the KV/NAND that the enable/disable is for the memory unit so we can manipulate it to our liking.

Very neat, gonna do this today on a a few dual nands as I am out of hard drives.
Is it live safe on the 4gb ones? Got a 64gb sd might try if it is
I can say that I have been using a 2.5inch 1TB HDD connected to that port and It works on Xbox Live with all of the space showing available. I have been using it with Xbox Live since I made that guide and saw Techwarriors guide so I would say it is fine.

And the 5v on those points is enough to power a 2.5inch hdd.

all hooked up and running fine. its on a 250gb model one so only works on the RGH, but saves switching hard drives now though
