I can say that I have been using a 2.5inch 1TB HDD connected to that port and It works on Xbox Live with all of the space showing available. I have been using it with Xbox Live since I made that guide and saw Techwarriors guide so I would say it is fine.

And the 5v on those points is enough to power a 2.5inch hdd.
I find it difficult to believe you haven't got banned for using this on live. I would suspect it be easily detectable. Did you store all your game saves on their as well?

Just tested with a 2.5" WD My Passport drive and it doesn't spin up using that power point, an 8gb Sandisk flash drive works from it though, and the Passport works on a regular USB port on the front of the Slim, so I'm going to hunt down an alternate 5v source, may tap the USB ports directly.

Edit: Actually wondering if it's the extension cable I modified, didn't test it with the drive before hand so it could be a matter of not getting enough current through the extension. Strange though, as it works on another extension cord just fine.

Edit2: Either it's the extension I'm using, or there's something else fishy going on, tried a different power point that I know will supply more than enough current and it still won't spin, drive electronics get power but drive itself won't react. May be sending this one back with SATA hard drive instead.

Edit3: Turns out to have been the extension, wires were too thin and it couldn't pull enough current. Replaced with a better cable and all fixed. Customer will be quite happy having a 1tb 'internal' drive for content.

Easily detectable? Probably, but honestly I cant see this being at the top of microsofts priority. A little extra space really, its not like theyre pirating games or really manipulating things for that matter.

i have demos arcade game and some profiles. it doesn't seem to be an issue. I even installed Halo Reach so he could play from the drive instead of just the disk. Also borderlands1. no issues. believe what you want but it is fine on my end.

Thats what I think. Sure its a risk but my son doesnt play on live that much. He uses live for Halo reach and Borderlands1.

It doesn't show on a stock 250gb but does show on the freeboot side with no change to the nand. Just format from the nxe dash on freeboot and your good.

Edit: the only thing I have noticed on the stock nand is if you go to settings -memory, sometimes it will hang up for a minute.

That sounds ideal, nice big 2.5" imside and then a normal 250 for stck.

Thanks for all of the info in this thread and all the threads before it on the internal memory mod!

I feel like I found a small twist to this mod.

I purchased a cheap $5 USB to SATA converter from amazon and was able to hook up my 2.5" 500GB Western Digital HDD as internal memory with it.

Here is a picture of the USB to SATA converter I used.

I powered both the USB to SATA converter and the 2.5" HDD off this relay circuit:

That can be found from this thread: http://forums.xbox-scene.com/index.php?showtopic=744513.

This way both the HDD and converter are powered off for the stock side of my system. No chance of live detection! Hopefully this helps someone out somewhere. :)

Hi,
I have a 4GO XBOX slim with trinity motherboard!!

it's new and never modded with any hack even never opened!

Can I use my USB 2.0 Enclosure shown in image below with my Seagate (7200 rpm and 320GO) HDD to do this mod?

I can sacrifice the enclosure cable to cut it and solder it to the mother board :)

How does the console react with multiple devices on a basic hub?

EDIT: Or if someone could give me the information regarding the format of this internal memory that would be appreciated.

Never tried a hub on it. As far as what format the filesystem is in, it is FatX.

I actually just got done doing a version of this mod, cut open the housing on the rear USB port and snipped the top legs. Bent them up and soldered the wires to that. Makes a nice clean install and works very nicely for any USB drive I want to put on the inner memory.
