I have a 1.4 with the X3 chip, and when I boot to the Flashbios 3.0.1, I cant move the controller. Would this be the install or something broke in the wiring? I have bypassed the little piece in front to see if that would help in getting the controller to recognize, but it wont. Any help would be greatly appriciated!

Quoted from Flashbios tutorial:

c. If you cannot navigate the FlashBIOS menu - have only one controller plugged in, unplug any DVD dongles or memory cards, try to
use an original MS controller.

...try those to start with.

Can you navigate the MS dashboard if you disable the chip?

I am having the same problem. I am using the original M$ gamepad, no dvd/memory dongles. I just can't navigate the menu on the Flash Bios screen.
I couldn't check if I could navigate on M$ Dashboard, b'cos there's some problem accessing it (Soft-Mod screw up).
I have a v1.0 box. help please...Thanks

just try another joypad - like we tell you
Thanks Xecuter.
But I tried this with my other original M$ gamepad too. Same results. I have three gamepads, two original M$ and one custom. The custom one has a LED light which lighted up when i plugged it in. This was just to make sure that the gamepad was not having any connection issue after i took the game ports out for sticking up the bank switch.

Have you actually checked to make sure you connected the controller ports back to the motherboard? Remember that you would have removed them....

Yes, i did. The LED lighting up on the gamepad was a confirmation that the gamepad was receiving power.

What LED? There isn't one on an std MS Controller.....

Martin

EDIT- sorry, saw it was a custom controller. Still, it's also worth checking all four ports...

Thanks Martin. Appreciate your help. But apart from checking the port connection (which i'll do today) , is there anything else which could be related to this issue?

Since you cannot boot the MS dashboard, then it's quite hard to troubleshoot.

Even though you hosed the onboard dash, you should be able to boot the Xbox from a game with a dashboard update to overwrite it.

Having the same issue... I have a v1.6 Motherboard... just installed everything... it looks happy... (Blue icon) but at the bios screen I can't move the controller...
I am using the controller that my box came with (m$) and have nothing plugged in.
Could this be a faulty wiring?.... I can boot with the mod chip off and play a game, so is it possible that it is a faulty chip?

Please help

just a slight note for team xecuter ;

is it possible that m$ released a new bersion of the pad?, maybe to coincide with the change in xbox hardware..
but then im not knowledgeable on these things.
to you guys having problems, were the two original m$ controllers with the system, or older?.

if there is a possibility they changed the pad, someone should mail one off to teamxecuter so they can take a looksee :p

but if it isnt, check the following ;
- check both controller port connections are plugged in , in the correct direction
- try a different port (just incase)
- check that you didnt tig any wires out of the plugs when removing the connectors from the motherboard (or boot with bios disabled and see if you can move in m$ dash)

if all else fails, check the MFG date of your machine and reply along with the model of memory in your machine.

p.s. added a request for flashbios change in requests/wishlist section ;)

If it helps at all... I got my xbox with the xmas special... as stated above, If i boot with the modchip off, then I can play halo 2 without a problem, and navigate the menus (MSDash)
Yet, when I boot to the modchip menu (flashbios 3.0.1) i can't navigate the menus

I am using the m$ controller that came with my box, no media and no memory cards... IE just the controller and the box.
NO GO.... can't navigate to tell it to load the bios or anything... is there a way to make it autoload a CD or turn on network flash by itself?

Or perhaps its a faulty chip?

the other tuts says about highlighting the selection...
but mine is when you move the control pad arrows... the selection goes up or down... not being highlighted.
so, i don't rely on the highlight thing, i just count the number of press to the up and down pad.

is it the same thing you have?
i got 1.6 also

tried it... still nothing... could it be a bad solder connection?
could I use a usb keyboard to navigate?

Any ideas?
You shouldn't need anything else to navigate the FlashBIOS screen.

I think you are closer in saying it's a solder issue.
