ok xbox masters, any help would be appreciated. please bear with me, as i will try to provide all relevant details.
first, i have an older (v1.3?) box that was flashed over with xecuter2 bios (no modchip installed). all was good for several months, except intermittently the hard drive would make a can opener (snapple lid?) popping sound, and not boot. turn off, turn on, then it would work. finally it would boot at all one day, the hdd just making it's popping sound over and over. i figured it was dead, and replaced it with a western digital 120gb. no good, i couldn't figure out how to do anything with it, as my box would not do anything since it's xbox dash no longer was on the mother board, but my failed hdd.
i bought an x3, figuring i could bypass the work that was previously done to the motherboard. i've installed twice, one wire one pin header, with the same result. push the power and hold, same thing as before, no boot, error screen. push the power for a second, it tries to go, then frags as the hdd led flickers and goes out. in both cases, the hdd led lights up for a few seconds as soon as i turn on the power. when i push both the reset and eject buttons, i can get to the flashbios screen. however, imprinted over and below the hdd info it reads: unable to read hdd first sector getting partition table. i have been able to connect via ftp to my computer, and flash the latest x3 bios with banks 1 and 2 on, 3 4 5 off. no difference. i've tried different drive cables and made sure they are all securely in place. i put my hdd in my friends box w/x3, and it read it just fine. i checked my soldering for the 4th time, all points on the pin header are clean and shiny, and the holes are filled with solder.
please tell me what i can do, or try. or tell me if my box is f*#%ed.
