Unable to resolve host message

For the last two months my Xbox has been in limbo between modded and not modded. After getting the X3 modchip into my box (that was the easy part), I loaded my new bios onto my partially modded box. Then my cd burner blew out on my computer. Now that I have a new one I discovered I don't have everything I need to install evox. Fastfxp was working fine, now it gives me an unable to resolve host issue. I also tried smart ftp, with the same result. I've double and triple checked all of the information for the connection, with no luck. Smart ftp's help site told me to call my isp. I'm not sure why i needed to call them, I talked to them, they are doing fine. Are their any suggestions (hopefully some that work) to get rid of the unable to resolve host error? I am very hardware smart, but I don't know crap about software.

you have given no info on what you are trying to connect to?

I take it you are trying to get your ftp software to connect to xbins?

if so what connection data, ie site details etc etc did you use?

I'm trying to connect to distribution.xbins.org with my given name and password to get the evox.ini file.

well it's the correct address you are using!!

have you tried using FlashFXP as your FTP client. I have never had a problem using flashfxp but with some other ftp clients I have had connection issues so give Flashfxp a try.

WOW. I've been plugging away at this trying to error resolve for the last 5 hours. I'm so pissed, but relieved that it wasn't a bonehead mistake.

yep atleast you have cleared up that it's not a problem your end though! i guess it's just a case of being patient.

on another note though: have you thought about using a newer dashboard? evox is so out of date now and does not have anywhere near as many features as unleashx or avalaunch for example?

Great advise. You anticipated my next move. This is my first x-box mod so I was going to stick to the tutorials as closely as possible, then switch dashes at a later date. This way I didn't have to make a noob post on how I screwed up my box. You make it sound easy, so I guess I will try Avalaunch. It sounded interesting from what I read. What do you think about using xbmc?

firstly xbins is sort of back up.

if you connect to the xbins irc channel it now lists alternative servers you can use for the time being!!!!

with regards to XBMC, yes I love it. It is almost as feature packed as some of the other dashboards. It has pro and cons: it's a great media player but it does still lack some dashboard features. I still use unleashx as my dash and XBMC as an app that can be launched for unleashx. In unleashx I like the game saves manager which xbmc does not have.
