Dumped about 4 cartridges today and installed to my emunand, found the appropriate offline update files, and each game was working 100% fine. Played a level of Wolfenstein, re-upped my mystery box in Pokemon go by transferring a Pokemon to Pokemon Lets Go Pikachu, and played a level each of Yoshi's crafted world and captain toad. I unplugged my switch and took it to work (still in CFW/sx os, I didn't restart it or shut it off before leaving) and when I got to work and tried to load Lets Go again, it gave me the error that titles this post. Originally I thought it was just that one game that may not be working but I've found that literally none of the games I dumped today work now. I still have the XCI dumps on my sd card in the sx/xci folder and I can install them just fine but then it fails to install the nsp updates across the board. SD card is a Samsung EVO 128gb. Any thoughts?

Again, I didn't even restart the switch, I just unplugged it and took it with me. 2 hours later none of the work I put in before seemed to matter.

Additional info which I'm not sure matters:
-my emunand is not on a hidden partition
-my emunand is always in airplane mode and has never connected to the internet
-all 4 games worked 2 hours prior and the only thing I did was put my switch to sleep (not off) then tried running a game a few hours later
-I can still dump the same 4 cartridges just fine and I can either mount or install. Updates will not install and fail

if some games plays fine at first then fails to work after awhile without changing firmware or sx os then there is a very high chance you got a fake microsd

You would think that but this was a store bought (Best Buy) legit, factory sealed, Samsung EVO card. I did a reformat of the card tonight after my post and am trying fresh dumps of my cartridges (again) but one thing I did notice was I was actually running SX OS 2.7 not 2.7.1 so it may be the "older games work again" from the release notes in 2.7.1 and may have been the version of SX OS.

I'll update as I try things. Working on my cart dumps now then will be trying the offline updates again.

You can test it with H2testw. You honestly never know and best buy isn't testing each one to make sure. People get fake ones all the time on Amazon. It could also just be corruption. Especially if you are using exFAT.

True, but having bought it from a physical store rather than online, you'd think they'd be extra sure they are selling legit products in their stores. I'm leaning more towards corruption. Yoshi's crafted world worked once yesterday then went back to not working yet at the time of writing this, Marvel Super Heroes 2 still works fine. I may have to look in to how to start fresh as FAT32 even though from what I Rea it seems like a lot more work. Can't put a price on stability though I guess

I have lost hours of game time because of corruption. exFAT can be used, but you do have to be extra careful when running any homebrew apps. You should be able to still back up your saves with Checkpoint. Then just copy that and your license file off the SD and reformat.

I just started from scratch again but in FAT32. I wasn’t that deep in any gameplay yet on my emunand so I’m just waiting to rebuild that as we speak.

Anyone know if there is a way to do installations of large games via network or usb using SX OS and Mac Os? I do have windows on my MacBook via boot camp but I’d prefer to use Mac OS if possible. I’ve done searches on this but never can really find a straight answer or guide.

You can look into nut or SX Server.

Thanks for the advice. SX Server doesn’t have a Mac OS client but I do have windows on my MacBook so I was able to load in to boot camp and use SX Server after formatting my card to FAT32. It’s only been a day and it’s more tedious to dump my cards l, convert to nap, then load over network but I’ve been able to load each game more than once since taking this route. That said, mission accomplished!

Appreciate everyone’s help!

I am getting this exact error for every game I have installed. I upgraded emunand to 8.01 and every game that I had previously installed, gets the "unable to start software" error when launching. I uninstalled a few games and reinstalled and they appear to be working, including the existing saved game info. At least that is a workaround without losing game progress but unfortunately this means reinstalling every single game. Any ideas what caused this?

This may sound strange, but I had the exact same issue. Every game in SXOS suddenly saying it couldn't start software. I remember I read somewhere to try this, so I did and it worked. You goto the game on the home screen, press start (+) and click "Support Information". SXOS will crash, but upon restart, the games will work once again.

Don't ask how this happens or why it works, cause I don't know...but it does. This is the 2nd time I've encountered this. My guess is a bug in SXOS...
