undecided on whether to mod or not

I modded the ps1 back in '96, the ps2, xbox and psp but I'm completely new to the 360 modding scene. After lots of tutorial reading I'm undecided on whether to do it or not. It would be a rather large investment, since I would buy the 360 blaster and one of those preflashed dvd burners. Also I need Live so I considered buying the elite for online, and keeping the modded 360 offline to run my backups.

But now I'm hearing new games (prob popular ones like madden 08 and Halo 3) will require updates. I'm not sure what the updates installed from a disc would do to an offline system..

Does this mean after a disc update, the drive will need to have a flash update again to play the backups?

I read a thread somewhere that the HD-DVD update bricked the modders drive. If any update is done that keeps the 360 from functioning, could the modder just revert back to original FW, install update, and reflash?

I haven't opened my 360, but I do have a Samsung drive and I purchased in Apr. 2006 so it might be a ms25.

Also my extended warranty is good through Apr 2009 so again I might wait to see what M$ has planned for the modding scene.

Moding it is up to you. You dig around the forums youll see that with a modchip or with firmware hack you can still download game updates and stuff. Theres always the risk of brikinng your drive and you can always mess something solding the modchip. For me i would use the firmware hack, and yes you can always put the original back.

modchips are old fashoned. flashing is the way forward, it cheap and easy to do.

I would go with the Firmware hack, its been working real good for me. I'm happy with it =)!

P.S. I have done the Firmware hack to mine and all of my friends 360's. there is a way to open your 360 without voiding anything!!!

Go to this site :

& Watch how he opens his 360 without voiding it!!!

if you are not prepared to take the risk, dont do it. the only benefit for modding the 360 at this point is to play backups which is ideal if you have bad ass kids like mine that like to use my games as frisbies. 2.00 DL is a perfect replacement. my XBL 360 is still stock.
