Unknown flash! Halting

I used the Network Flashing way but after I type it my IP in Internet Explorer, browse for the bios, upload and flash, and then on my screen its said Unknown flash! Halting.

Usually means flash protect is still turned on.

Do the LAN and HD light need to be on the external switch for it to be worked?

You don't even need the external switch hooked up. Just make sure the flash protection is off on the chip itself and it will auto load to the first 1 mb bank.
The hdd light is usually always on doing something on my xbox but lan is only on when networking.

Ok, cause my LAN was flashing red and I thought there was something wrong with it.

Your LAN should flash if you're doing a network falsh, or anything over your network.
