I don't think you're PC will detect a locked Xbox HD. EvoX should allow you to unlock/lock the HD - so yes, you could do it from a boot disc.

best way is to get your hands on a slayers disc and boot up with this in the rom, then select to unlock HDD...too easy!

True, but a time consuming download! If you know what you're doing in EvoX, you could easily do it from EvoX, rather than having to spend time downloading slayers.

or use CONFIGMAGIC.....

Stupid question (beause I have never had to do this) - but doesn't the Flashbios have the ability to lock/unlock the HDD? Would going into the recovery BIOS (power/eject together) then selecting Unlock HDD be an option?

Good point, it can also be done from the newer versions of Flashbios. However, I think it's only the X3 that has the recovery BIOS.

Equally good point lost on those of us that have been spoilt from the beginning by owning an X3 :D

But what if you swapped motherboards and now the new mother board doesnt recognized the hard drive? Can use use slayers disc to unlock the HD and then let it boot normal?? I get error 6..cant get into anything.
