after much research and hours spent on this I am at a loss as to how to unlock the original hard drives. I have 2 seagate and 4 western digital left over from upgrades. I believe the seagate are 10 gb and the wd 8 gb.

My pc won't alow me to format them,I get the message 'windows cannot access this disk' so I can safely assume they are locked.

My research has led me to configmagic as the recommended way to unlock a hard drive, however when I use the slayers disk and when i load config magic I get the message 'invalid xbox version specifieD!'

I have spent hours on this does anybody know of a pretty reliable way to unlock a hard drive.

thanks in advance

You need the lock code from each one and i believe you needed the matching mobo to lock/unlock the hhds.

spot on badazzzz....they are just mere paperweights without the mobo.

always unlock the old drive before upgrading!

I prefer the unlock/lock method with ConfigMagic....

It means the HDD can be used again in the same Xbox right away (handy for Error 16 messages), but can still be unlocked with ATAPWD on a PC.
