I have a Locked Hard Drive from another Xbox that I would like to unlock with my Xbox. Is this possible?

If so, could you please give detailed instructions on how to do this? Thanks

Far from here!
Yes you will have to d/l liveinfo 1.6. Use that to get the unlock code to the hdd. Then you will need to get hdunlock and hddisabl. Just view the readme file that comes with those files and you will be set. :D

liveinfo has yet to give me a working lock code.

also, there is no v1.6. theres a vbeta3 and a final version, but where you can actually get the final version is anyone's guess.

I was able to get a working lock code from the program, but it required my EEPROM.bin file from the Xbox it was locked on.

I have heard that in some circumstance that it will give a unlock code that will work without the EEPROM.bin, but that's one of those "I'll believe it when I see it" sort of things...

I had a copy of my old eeprom but when I backed it up I hadnt installed the 160 yet. Anyway I used that and it still worked. I guess since it was the same eeprom it still gave the correct key to unlock it so I could install it in my other xbox. I should've mentioned that in my previous post. :D

So just to outline it for people who hopefully search these forums.

HOPEFULLY you have a copy of the EEPROM.bin of the Box that locked the HD. If not, this probably won't work, but it might. If you ahve the EEPROM.bin, you're probably gold.

1) get LiveInfo_Beta_3 from Team Assembly
2) get hdunlock and hddisabl (from the usual places)
3) put the locked HD in your PC and run LiveInfo on it. Live info will want the EEPROM.Bin if you don't have it, try anyway, you never know.
4) write down the password LiveInfo gets you.
5) make a DOS boot Disk with hdunlock and hddisabl on it.
6) boot to dos
7) hdunlock your HD with the password
8) hddisabl you HD with the password.
9) You HD should be good to go. mine was.

The programs I mentioned all come with reasonable documentation, so read the readme's. And people. BACKUP YOUR EEPROMS!!!!!!

I don't know what more you're hoping to ahve contributed.

It took me a few weeks even to find out the steps I outlined. As far as I have found, if that way doesn't work, then you're screwed. There are some data recovery services out there that claim to ba able to remove the password, but the cost is basically the cost of a new HD. If the data is worth something it'd be worth the fee, I guess.

So you have no access, no how to the Eeprom or Eeprom.bin of the original HD?
And liveinfo with a blank Eeprom.bin file didn't give you a workable password?
And what feedback did hddisabl give you?

(there is one other program out there... atapwd, but it's a little harder to use and hdunlock and hddisabl do what it does, except atapwd shows the status of the drive, ie: locked. atapwd also needs to be run from DOS)

i have no access to the hdd (its locked, duh), no EEPROM or EEPROM.bin
the live info pass didnt work. i tried inputting with ATAPWD, and it was 8 characters too long
hddisabl gives me "device not ready"
