Unmodded, Possible Coma?

Working on the brother-in-law's 1.1 box this week. It shut off mid-way thru a movie. He could then only get it to turn on for a few seconds before it would shut off. When I received it, it powered on as soon as I plugged it in and would not respond to the power/eject buttons. Have removed everything and cleaned visible grime (he's a smoker), and electrical taped anything that may have been grounding. No longer powers on automatically.
Now back to original issue. Pressing power button usually has no effect, but, sometimes it will successfully boot completely, however, pressing the eject button while its running will cause it to shutdown immediately. If I press the eject button to power on the box it will either 1) barely spin up before shutting down, or 2) boot the the flubber and shutdown immediately after. Sometimes it will repeat. I should note that the lights are always green.
I have already tested the power/eject pcb in another box and its good. Also have disconnected the dvd drive without any effect. I don't have another compatible power supply to test it with either.
Any ideas?

I would guess it's a defect, but that's just me. I've never heard of something like that before. You never know, it actually could be the PSU. I suggest finding another 1.0 or 1.1 power supply maybe from a friends XBOX to toy with in your Brother-In-Law's. Sounds like youre kinda stuck until then. Sorry man.

Thanks for the reply.
Yeah, I'm not really sure its the power supply either, but I think I'm going to to go ahead and order one anyway. Even if isn't the problem, it never hurts to have some spare parts around.
Maybe I will try one of the Coma fixes. Shouldn't hurt.
If anyone else has some ideas they would be much appreciated. I probably won't order the part for couple of days as I'm not really in much of a hurry.

Got it fixed! It was a broken "power on" trace. It ran from the pwr/eject pcb connection around the perimeter of the motherboard. Don't know how it happened on a unopened, nonmodded xbox. Oh well. Maybe now I'll stick my old 2.3b pro into it.
Thank God for these forums.
