hi, been researching and asking questions and i've kinda came to a halt. after failing on one 360 using qsbs while trying to r-jtag i decided to straight wire another 360 i had (both falcons). problem is i don't have a dvd drive for this one and the console won't boot (red light bottom right corner) with the drive from my first 360, boots fine with no dvd drive but can't update past 12625 (processing error). after messing up the qsbs what i have is the cr4xl and the jrprgrammer v2. will i be able to update the dash in j runner after dumping the nand or do i need to do another hack like rgh and with what i have will work.

Get the osig+fw+dvdkey from RGH, flash the coresponding drive with stock fw and update the dashboard.
so the console won't boot at all without the right drive? back before i put in the closet for all of these years it had a stock liteon drive i bought online after the original owner (brother) tried to flash and plugged the power in upside down. of course it wouldn't play games but it played dvds fine.

you canplug a liteon pcb into it,(if thats whats really supposed to be in it) and itll update.dont even need the right key on it.

If it was plugged in upside down it would have damaged the PCB and would not work at all. If it plays DVD's then it is just the key that is wrong.
the replacement drive was a liteon and it just played dvds until i spoofed it to a benq for another 360. i've swapped out the power cable and sata cable and it still getting the E64 error while booting. i don't care about the drive i just want to be able to r-jtag it or rgh it (acording to the ultimate guide rgh for 12625). if theres no way to update it, is a cr4xl and jrprogrammer v2 all i need to rgh it? thanks for all the help.

Does it boot up without the drive? if it gets an update error, thats fine. I would dump the nand, and start rgh1 process, as you said it wasnt updated past 13699(I think that is where rgh1 cuts off). then you can get your cpu_key, and DVD_key. create a new retail nand, flash that back to your console, and get a working drive, or just use it as an rgh. It is fairly easy.

with all drives connected i get the E64 error. without the drive it comes on perfectly but can't update. i can care less about the drive, i'm only interested in getting r-jtag. but jtag, r-jtag, rgh is all the same thing right? cr4 xl and jr programmer is all i have right now, i can use those to straight wire rgh1?
No, you will need to get a coolrunner rev c, or you could wire it for rgh2+, with the cr4. r-jtag+ will not work until dash 15574.

RGH2+ will work on any dash according to jsinger, I have no reason to not trust his word.
