Update Xbox Not Working

I had sent message http://www.teamxecuter.com/forums/showthread.php?t=25021 a while back. I didn't get any responses explaining what I should have done so, what I ended up doing is ordering a replacement motherboard from Llama. I was under the impression that the 120gb HD that I installed after modding, would work with the replacement motherboard. I found out the hard way that it doesn't because it's locked. My question now is, if I send the original motherboard to Llama to see if it can be fixed, is the key that is stored on the original(one that xbox came installed with) and replacement 120 gb hd's the same? Or when I put in the 120 gb did it create a new one? The reason why I'm asking is because when I send it in to get fixed, I don't want to send the 120 gb hd, I'd feel more comfortable sending the original that I still have. If I find that the motherboard is not able to be fixed, I'm considering sending it in to have it unlocked from the manufacture. Has anyone sent a locked HD back in for data retriveal? My main gripe that I have now is, in all the FAQ's and tutorials on setting up and installing mod chips NO WHERE was it stated that you should backup and keep your hard drive key just in case, or to use config majic to create a master password. This is very important because situations like these will happen.

I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that the code IS the same, as normally you have to change EEPROM's to change the code I THINK.

So, yes, send the original hdd off with the motherboard and in theory, if they fix it, it should then operate your 120gb hdd when you put it back in.

Just to point out - this is the beauty of say the X3 chip - by default, the hdd is unlocked - thus saving any agro like this. It also enables you to store a backup of the EEPROM in the event that something screws up.

you can fix this yourself... here is a tutorial. http://xbox-scene.com/articles/recover-locked-hd.php Just switch off your EEPROM chips and you are good. It doesn't say this in the tutorial, but if you switch a 1.0-1.1 xbox's eeprom onto a 1.2-1.5 xbox or vice versa, your xbox won't boot without the modchip in, but you can fix the EEPROM through config magic. I don't know about 1.6 xboxes though.

You do realize that tutorial tells you to desolder the eeprom chip from the motherboard right??
He posted in the X3 forums so he must have one. He probably didn't bother to backup his eeprom into it.

Most "common sense" stuff is not posted. However backing up is posted in every tutorial I have ever seen. Slayer tells you to backup, EvolutionX tutorials tell you to backup. Nobody is responsible for holding your hand and walking you through every step. It's your responsibility to do the research and learn what your doing.

Yeah, I meant to say ... isnt soldering/desoldering those puppies rather difficult ?? I mean, I'm good at soldering and all but that is kinda daunting .... never actually tried it tho.
