Updating 9199 jtag? - failing

Hey guys.

I'm fairly new to Jtagging. I've done a couple RGHs without any problems but recently repaired a xenon that was jtagged. The dash is 9199 and it has a benq drive.

My question is what's the easiest way to 14699?

I was going to grab the cpu key with nand-x and then use Jrunner and build a 14699 and update. Is this correct? I just not sure about the dvd drive. Do I flash it back to stock and if so what stock firmware on the Benq?

I'm most comfortable with liteons. I have the cpu and dvd keys in case I mess up.

Thanks for the help!

If you got the CPU key decrypt the key vault and see what is te OSIG for the DVD drive type. However been a jtag it really doesn't matter what drive you got in it so long the DVD key matches.

Also late xenons did come with BenQ drives.

Thank you!

I forgot with a jtag that the type doesn't matter as long at the keys match.

Ok...I'm stumped...

I was originally on 9199...

I dumped the nand, used 360 multi builder, created xell and flashed it...Everything went well. Power cycled the console.

The problem is I can boot xell fine with a video using the eject key but if I power on with the power button I only get a solid green light with no video??

I flashed back to the original nand and I can only boot into xell with the power button.

The jtagged was working originally before I tried updating so it shouldn't have to do with the wiring.

Not sure what I'm doing wrong.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Try either J-Runner or XeBuild GUI to create a newer image and see if that works.

This makes no sense - it was working before with the same dump, so pressing the power button should boot it normally.

It doesn't make sense. I will try to recreate another image.

Thanks again for the help.

Are you saying you made an xell image and tried to boot with the power button? An xell image will not boot to the dashboard. Also, if it was previously jtagged, then just pressing the power button would have booted xell. If you have the original 9199 nand image, just run that through jrunner to update it to the 14719 Jtag Image.

I must be doing something wrong.

This was a console that I acquired as a RROD. After opening the console I realized it was Jtagged. I repaired the unit and it worked. The jtag was on dash 9199.

Since I did not have the original nand I dumped the nand on the console in Jrunner. Then tried creating a new image with dash 14699 with 360 multi builder, copied the xenon.elf and nandflash.bin to the USB drive. Powered on with eject and flashed. Shut down and power cycled. Now I can boot into xell with the eject but when I try with the power button the green light stays solid and no video.

I'm screwing up this process somewhere.

Thanks for being patient. :)

I'd put my money on a bad compile. try using another tool to build your image and flash again. j-runner, even coolshrimps or bestpigs tool should work - though j-runner is sweet :)

How many dumps, can you do several and compare in latest nand healer. I'm trying to find out if you have bad blocks.

Or try power cycling longer, let console sit unplugged for 5 min or so.

Thanks for the tips. I've tried recompiling and reflashing but of note I seem to have a bad block at 4f. Now the first time I dumped the nand I don't recall seeing any bad blocks but now when I compare the dumps they all have a bad block at 4f.

Martin, you're the bad block expert...do you think this is causing the console not to boot into xbm?

I thought jrunner auto remaps but I may be wrong on this. I thought I read somewhere about 4f and having something to do with booting?

Should I try to manually remap this with nandpro?

Thank you all for helping me with this. This is more about me conquering the problem and learning. I could care less about the console itself.

Post your nandflash.bin.log from J-runner. Please attach it, don't copy / paste!

Also confirm you get an error 202 when trying to write to this block with NANDPro.

Here's the log of the last nand dump and flash.

I will will if I get an error with Nandpro and report back.

Edit: I do get errors writing back.

This xenon is a 8192 cb.

It was working on the 9199 dash but since I tried updating I haven't been able to boot into xbm. Not sure if that has anything to do with it.

I think I'm loosing my battle with this damn console.

Well I think this console has won.

Or maybe I did because it's RROD secondary 0102 after a nand reflash.

I went back into J runner and created another xell and flashed with the dump I took of the nand when it was still working on 9199 dash.

Then reflashed the last working nand I had but she's still RROD.

I've put 3 days into this damn console trying to figure it out but I think I'm giving up on this one.

I guess that's the problem when I pick up where someone else left off. I guess the most discouraging thing is was working before I tried updating it. It just wouldn't take the update and then went down hill from there.

If there are any other ideas I'd be more than happy to retry but I'm onto my next jtag I guess for now. I'm sure there is something I'm missing just bums me out because I've done about 5 RGHs and this is my 5 or 6th jtag, but this is the first one I attempted to upgrade without an original nand and someone elses work/flash.

i'm not sure but since you have your cpu key you might be able to try creating a fresh nand image with a donor nand and see if you can boot stock dash. Just an idea i am by no means an expert and if i were you i would wait for martin c to tell you what to do. Just thought i might be able to help :)

0102 may be a simple reheat fix. Do you have the ability to reflow your board? Try that to see if it gets you back on track.

I do Cowboy. My primary hobby with these is repairs. I have a BGA machine.

I was hoping to get this thing working and not have to do a reflow/reball. It was working until I tried updating..then I did try working with a donor nand and then the RROD after that.

Thank you though! :)
