Updating Falcon with Demon and CR Rev A to RGH2 and new dash

Hi all.

Just successfully glitched my first box with J-Runner (after one disaster and a lot of help from Synxx, thanks mate!)

As the description says, it's a Falcon with a Rev. A CoolRunner and Demon Installed. CR is programmed with the latest RGH1 Falcon xsvf.

The Demon nand is running 2.0.15574.0 while the stock nand is 2.0.13599.0.

To enable live play on the stock nand I know I'm going to have to update to the latest dash, and that would render my Demon nand useless as I think I'm right in saying any stock nand past 2.0.14719.0 requires RGH2.

So other than moving the wires to support RGH2 on the Coolrunner and adding some caps/resistors as my Rev. A doesn't have them on board, then mess about trying to get it glitching again (I hear RGH2 falcons are a nightmare) is there anything else I need to do?

Any help appreciated.

Any dash past 14699 requires rgh2

You are correct, will need some wire alterations and then be prepared for a lot of work to get rgh2 working. Maybe worth switching to a cr3 lite as they are much more configurable for troublesome consoles.

To be honest your better of with a jasper or slim but good luck.

Thanks for clarifying that.

So at some point I'll probably want to have a go at making this RGH 2 to take full advantage of the demon (which is essentially a nand-X hardwired into a console right now).

Should I disconnect all the CR wiring, update the stock nand to the latest dash via USB then proceed to reconnect the wiring as per RGH2 standard (try and get it to work, then make a new glitch image for the Demon nand?

That's basically it, you only need to remove one wire from the bottom of the board and add two new ones to the top, but you will find it a right pain to get rgh2 working on a falcon.

I wouldn't remove the other wires as you do not need to.

Just set the coolrunner to PRG to disable it, write your stock original nand dump and get it running the original stock dash. Once this is done then you can update it to the latest dash and then create a new glitch image for the demon.

Just make sure you keep back ups of the keys and nand dumps before you do anything.

To echo what UTMAD says, if you think that RGH2 is in any way better/superior than RGH1, forget it.

Personally I'd leave this as an RGH1 console and get a slim to dual-NAND.

Thanks for the help, really appreciate it.

Am I going to find it impossible to go back to RGH1 if the Falcon is a nightmare to glitch?

Falcon RGH 2 are no fun, believe me. It takes a lot of fine tuning and to be honest i wouldnt be doing it anymore if the CR3 hadn't been there. If you finally have the most optimal configuration than you have to face in most cases with freeze problems after playing your games for a couple of minutes. Has to do with the RAM getting too hot...search the forum for the Falcon RGH 2 nightmare.
Sell the box and get yourself a smooth and oiled Slim, saves a lot of hassle m8:facepalm:

Me again. So some time has passed since I was first thinking of getting the Falcon working to its full potential, but I never actually went ahead with updating the stock NAND etc.

I'm just wanting to double check that there's no newer way of enabling the use of a demon with an RGH1 console. I've looked about and the solution posted above still seems the way to go, save for waiting for the r-jtag replacement to become available so I can avoid any falcon rgh2 issues.

please fill me in if I've missed any relevant scene news.

no that is about it, get an r-jtag if you can find one, if not, wait for the new hack, shouldnt be much longer. Hopefully :)

No r-jtags available in the UK that I can find... I waited over a year, few more weeks/months ain't gonna hurt. Thanks for the confirmation.
