Updating FlashBIOS without using the DVD-ROM Drive

I was just wondering if it's possible to update FlashBIOS on the X3 without using the Xbox DVD-ROM drive? I have an old Xbox a friend gave me and the DVD-ROM drive is busted so I was hoping to install an X3 and just use it for emulation and stuff. I know you can flash it with a BIOS over a network but is it also possible to update FlashBIOS that way?

why do you want to update the flashbios? if you have an older xbox 1.0-1.5 you don't need to update the flashbios.

Just for the sake of being up to date. Also it'd be nice to know if it's possible incase I get a newer xbox without a DVD-ROM drive sometime.

Have you read the FlashBIOS Tutorial first? You can flash with either HTTP, FTP, CD, or DVD. So, the answer to your question is yes, you can flash without using the DVD Drive.

That's for flashing a BIOS onto the chip. I want to update the FlashBIOS software itself.

First of all, go to http://www.consolefix.com/ and get yourself a replacement drive better than the stock drive ever was, called the samsung 616t. It'll read any media you throw at it and will read 3 times faster (16x).

About flashbios, if it ain't broke, don't fix it. You're not missing anything special with 3.0.3.

About alternate flashing methods, if you boot flashbios you will see what options you have (HD, http, ftp etc.). I recommend HTTP. It's by far the most hassle-free.

Not to sound ingrateful but I know you can flash the BIOS without a DVD-ROM drive.

All I was asking is if it's possible to update FlashBIOS without one. Wether it has a beneficial outcome has no bearing so if anyone could tell me how I would appreciate it otherwise don't bother posting or asking my why I need to update it since it really doesn't matter. And sorry if this comes out a bit angry sounding but all these replies are the reason why it's so hard to search in forums and find anything useful.

*EDIT* Work makes me angry. Sorry.

Aw dude, that's not how I meant to come off at all. The truth is, 3.0.3 if anything, is more of a problem and a bit buggy. 3.0.0 and 3.0.1 are the best IMO. Same features. Trust me, it's not worth the trouble. I think you are asking if you can just flash without a DVD-ROM drive period. And yes you can. It doesn't look for a drive unless you select "Flash from bios on DVD-ROM." It won't freak out.

"strange we said the same thing. your post was not up when i started my reply."

Yeah, wierd huh?

It's no problem. Work is driving me crazy and the only thing keeping me remotely sane are my xboxs.

I thought I was the only one who felt this way. Lol.

I'm kinda like that guy with A.D.D. in The Fast and The Furious; "There's just something about xboxes that... calms me down, makes me focus."

BTW I do have A.D.D.

Yeah - There's just something about crakin' open a brand new xbox and modding it. Or repairing a broken one for that matter.

New dvd drive

So I have been given an xbox 360 that just needs a new dvd drive. Could I buy a premodded drive and just stick it in there and be able to play backups?

Re: New dvd drive

nope, you have to transfer the dvd key from the old drive
to the new drive. the dvd key is software based and in the
firmware so if you don't have the proper tools or software
to pull the key from the firmware then you should take it to
someone that knows what they are doing.

Re: New dvd drive

Well I am more than familiar with computer hardware. I am pretty good with computers and nothing in the xbox 360 is unfamiliar. I cant just swap dvd drives I have to do the dvd key thing? And also do I have to buy the same drive?
