My old 2.3 lite burnt out so I decided to upgrade to the 2.6 ce. I currently have backup games on my existing disk and Slayer dashboard. Is there any specific task I have to do after installing the new chip? I know I have to load in a new bios. Do I have to edit any configuration files from the new bios to be able to load Slayer from my existing disk?
Thank you in advance.

Once you flash your chip if the default settings don't pick up your mod dashboard you'll need the Slayers or some other boot disc to access your HDD and drop in/adjust the x2config.ini file. If you need to do this I would only use the Slayers disc for FTP access to the box... I wouldn't install anything from it as it may change the last configuration you had.

Do you remember the LBA48 setting from your old BIOS? You'll probably need to set the new BIOS to the same (if the default isn't it) in order to properly see the F and G partitions if you have them. Good news is that if it isn't right the first time it won't hurt your HDD. Change the setting, reflash and check again. There was one guy in the X2CL forums that went through all 4 settings until he stumbled on the right one for his HDD.

I didn't mod this XBOX last time. There's a 200 GB hard drive in there now. How do I change the LBA48 setting in the bios? I was able to flash the xbox already w/ version 5035, I only see the "MS Dashboard" in the spinning EvolutionX logo on the screen. I was able to ftp into the Xbox and see xboxdash.xbe and evoxdash.xbe in the C partition.
Thank you for the quick reply.

Is EvoX what you used to use for your dashboard? If so you've lucked out and the default 5035 settings found the dash. Sounds like the configuration for EvoX is goofed though, if it only dispays the option of MS Dashboard. FTP in and check for a .ini file, I don't remember the full name off the top of my head.

In FTP do you see any of your games on the E partition? Does an F partition show up, and can you see your games there? If you can find all your games you may be OK and don't need to change the LBA48 setting. If you don't find everything then it can be addressed later. I'd suggest getting back to your correct dashboard or EvoX settings first, then worry about correcting the LBA48 setting if needed. Going in this order should make life easier.

I do see contents in the F: partition. I see the "evox.ini" file in the C: partition and I'd also put the default "x2config.ini" file in the C: partition.
Here are the contents of the "evox.ini" file:

That is a less than complete EvoX ini file, if any of those items were selectable options you wouldn't want them. It would flash your chip back to an old BIOS.

Do you have any idea what your dashboard was before your 2.3 fried? Does EvoX look familar? (As far as I've seen EvoX always has options in the lower middle of the screen, a scrolling list of text options.) There was an option to set the box to boot Avalaunch in that ini, is that possibly what you were using?

The next thing you should probably do is get the evox.ini file straightened out. For this I would recommend obtaining a default evox.ini file that is packaged with the dashboard. You can find EvoX on xbins, a tutorial is here- http://www.xbox-scene.com/articles/xbins.php When you get the file take the time and read through it before putting it on your xbox. You may need to make some changes, like network settings. There is a lot of text in there that explains what the different options are.

x2config.ini needs to go in the root of E or F, but leave it where it is for now. Since you are at least able to get into your xbox with FTP right now we don't want to goof that.

Also, you've got a PM in your account. Check under where it says "welcome, thedba" at the top of your screen.

First off... Thank you very much for all you responses. It used to boot into Slayer 2.5 dashboard. I will get the default ini file and upload to replace the existing one. I'll keep you posted.

I fixed the problem by copying a new edited evox.ini to the C partition. It's odd how the old evox.ini got corrupted somehow.

Now I need to figure out how to change the default Evolution X logo screen. I menu is hardly visible because of the text color of the menu from this logo screen. I tried changing it in the select new screen but the change isn't permanent when the Xbox is restarted. I'd also changed the skinname parameter in evox.ini file but it is still there after reboot.

Thank you for the help.
