For a few months i had a 2.3b+ installed in my 1.5 box, after much moving around and trying to hot swap a friends bad chip it would never properly screw back in tightly. Sometimes it would boot sometimes it wouldnt. After a few more months of giving up on the box i just recently installed a 2.6ce and it got evo to boot and i can play games and transfer new files to my box, problem is when i turn the swith to disabled it does not boot the orginal ms dash it just frags. This would also occur when i had the 2.3b+ installed aswell. My guess is that all that moving seemed to damage to top d0 point (ill try to post pics to show you) its pretty scratched. I tried repairing it with a conductive pen and a exacto but still no boot. What im wondering is if this top d0 point is the problem and if it is, is there a way i can use a wire to bypass the trace. Ive tried to follow it but my eyes cant see where the point ends. I was wondering if anyone has tried this before and were succsefull if so please let me know.

P.S. i used to bottom d0 point for the 2.6ce install incase anyone was wondering.

I'm not 100% certain and I'm sure that someone will point out whether I'm wrong or right. The D0 point is what tells the xbox whether to boot from the LCP port or not. When the switch is in Enabled mode, the xbox should boot using the 2.6CE chip which is exactly what your box do. I think that you have a corrupted ms dash and this is the reason for your box to FRAG when the chip is in Disabled mode. Have you tried re-installing your ms dash yet?

I would do as suggested above first. Do you get any error codes or anything when the Xbox FRAGs?

I forgot to mention that i have tried replacing the ms dash from both the slayer install disk and from downloading it from the web and ftp it to my box neither of which worked. There is no error code given when frags simple attempts to boot 3 times then frags with a blank screen perhaps somehow my eeprom has been corrrupted? I have an orginal m$ bios for the 1.5 but am a little confused as to how to flash it. If you guys have any other ideas on what the problem may be please let me know
Thank you

Were you messing around with the EEPROM at all? That is the only way it could be the problem. What happened when you were trying to replace the Microsoft dashboard? I have a feeling there is more to the story than the chip just stopped working.

No i have never touched my eeprom im just trying to speculate the cause of my problem. Well when i recently tried to replace the ms dash all files transfered when i ftp it and when i installed it with the slayer 2.6 it gave me no problems. The reason my first chip stoped working is becuase it was solderless and kept coming unscrewed because the plastic where it screwed in is stripped. If i applied a little pressure and held the chip there in place it would boot of course i cant play games and hold the chip down so i installed the 2.6ce. Is there any other reason besides a corrupted msdash for my box not to boot up as and orginal xbox anymore?

It is tough to tell what the problem is since you aren't getting any video. If you weren't changing video modes or anything like that I highly doubt it is your EEPROM. I would take another real close look at your D0.

Ok well do but does anyone know or have a picture of where i can jump the d0 point with a wire or something becuase i cant find where the trace ends. Like i said i had tried to do a trace repair on it but its pretty badly scratched from the 2.3b+ moving around.

Take a picture of your D0 and post it up. Try to get as clear a picture as possible.

I dont know how to set up my digital camera to take such close ups (yes macro was on) so all the pictures i took do no justice i(ts a Sony DSC-P73 incase anyone knows how to set this up for close ups). Here is a picture with my cell phone camera because its the best i could get dont know if you can see much though. That white stuff is the conductive pen i used to try to repair it. I dont know how much you can do with this picture.

If I am not mistaken, I believe the D0 traces goes through the hole at that point and connects with the trace on the bottom of the board. It may be that your top and bottom points are not making a connection.

If that is the problem I don't see why you couldn't do that. Take a multimeter and test to see if that is the problem.
