I have a friend I am installing a X3 for today and he didnt tell me he purchased a 200gb hdd to go along with the chip install. I have a 1.6 with X3 installed that I did myself but have the stock hdd because I have no need to backup games to it. I have never upgraded a hdd and know that anything above a 137gb hdd it requires something different in the bios. What am I getting myself into and how hard is this with the X3? Also I know in x3live config there is something about hdd swap I think or in evox there is something to partition it ect. I am concerned about the hdd lock/unlock feature with password and not sure how to correctly swap the hdd and retain the lock/unlock password ect. Please help :)

His sister? Hopefully not his Mom!! j/k. You can set your bios to allow bigger drives and have everything go to the F Drive. I have a 200GB in mine and have done a 250 without any problem.

like that avatar? lol I found it a few years back on some forum for EQ when I used to play. Have used it ever since because she is so hot. I could only wish I was from Kentucky and she was my sister (j/k). But I guess a picture and living in Ohio is close enough...

Thx for the info I guess its not as hard as I thought it would be to swap a hdd out.

no need for step by step.

1)Boot xbox to config live (press and hold white button) and set up so u r able to ftp
2)copy(ftp) all C: & E: to your PC
3)replace stock HDD with 200GB HD
4)Boot to config Live
5)prep HDD using config live...no instruction needed..menu is intuitive
6)reboot and enter config live
7)ftp all of C & E back to new HDD

Lock HDD if u want to boot old M$ dash too

put stock hdd somewhere safe u never know u may need it again one day

Done

Another Noob question as I'll be trying the 200g upgrade this weekend myself - I won't need the Slayer's 2.6 to set up the new HDD as the X3 Live bios feature will set that up for me, correct?
Also, set the LBA 48 and then F: 137, G gets rest -correct?
Thanks!

On a side note make sure you turn up the fan a bit , as a 200+ HD will throw more heat than a 8gb. I did it in my x3 bios.

Thought I read somewhere that you won't be able to go on LIVE with the new drive if you have already played on your old hard drive. Something to do with the EEPROM.. could be wrong, but you might want to let your friend know that as well. Curious about that myself actually.....as far as swapping Hard Drives... easy as pie~ I got a 300g in mine!

I have an X3 with the 1959 build and I just installed a Western Digital 200 gig HD.

Now I don't get the 137 thing. Basically I crammed all I could onto F (Which shows 178.86) and then there is 4.77 in E, 0.49 in C, 0.73 in each X Y and Z totalling 186.31.

My question is where the hell is the other 13.69 gigs? I mean I obviously don't have the > 137 issue because drive F has more then 137. Plus I tried giving whatever F couldnt hold to G and it still only showed 186.31. I normally wouldn't care but if I was gunna only get 186 gigs outta my 200 i woulda saved 20 bucks and gotten a damn 180 gig =)

Thanks in advance.

P.S. if this has already been answered my apologies I've read a ton tonight and its 3 am and I still havent found it.

You have 200 gigaBYTES... not bits.

200 GB HD is around 186 GB - 100 GB HD is around 93 GB. 160 is around... who knows. You never get what you pay for... and the HD company screws over the non suspecting users.

I was really hoping that wasnt the answer... I've never had a HD this large but I did remember that happening with my 40 and 60... Obviously it was never such a large quantity I think like 1 gig max or some crap. On the 10 gig HD that comes with the xbox you only lose .5 of a gig outta 10 so I was hoping it would ratio out and I'd still be left with at least 190 of 200 =)

Thanks pal appreciate it

I did everything said here and everything worked fine (as far as I can tell) until I got to part 7. Once I got to x-fering the files from my comp to the xbox I hit a snag.

As far as I can tell all the files "SHOULD" have been x-fered correctly. My C drive took its normal 5 or so min to xfer over and then the E drive took its standard 30+ min to xfer back over and I saw the files moving. Once the E finished I turned off my xbox and computer. I reconnected VIA FTP (in live mode) and in the FTP it still showed 0 files. So I ran a test and move a smaller file to C drive and it wasn't showing up. Anyone have any clue what could be wrong?

P.S. I tried to search for a good hour and half or more but the search feature almost always returns with Sorry not found or too many threads with your keywords.
