i upgraded from xecuter 2.0 to 3.0 and now i'm getting unable to read HDD first sector getting partition table. when i try to boot into MS console it tells me contact tech support error code 6. i read up on this error and it's because the hd is locked. i tried networking with my computer but for some reason the xbox is not connecting to my computer at all. maybe it's because it can't read the hard drive. the hd i have is stock and the xbox version is 1.4. anyways. the hard drive and the dvd drive are getting detected fine by flashbios 3.0.1 but i'm totally stuck on the flashbios screen because of the damn unable to read HDD first sector getting partition table and can't do anything. hope this gives you more info about my problem. thanks.

yep..seagate with 10 gigs of space. my friend put the xecuter 2.0 chip in for me and did all the work. i'm not sure what he did but everything was working fine until i decided to change the dvd drive to a samsung drive and fried my motherboard so i got a new motherboard which is 1.4 and i installed the 3.0 chip. so the hard drive that was in there was in perfect working condition. maybe i should just delete all the partitions and start again?

ah, so the hard drive is from the original xbox with the fried motherboard, and you put in a new motherboard keeping the old drive right?

You need to unlock the drive using the old motherboard (which I guess you can't do tho...) before you can hook it up to your new motherboard and lock it.

ic ic ic..didn't know i needed the old MB to be able to unlock it. i guess i'm going to have to just delete the partitions and start over but now i think i know why my xbox is not connecting to my pc. for some reason the LAN light is just constantly on even though i have no cat5 cable plugged in (on the external swith that indicates LAN and HDD). i'm wondering if this is a defect. thanks

Right - you know where I said "read my sig and repost" ??

Information like "I replaced the motherboard" is what I meant by specifics.

Read the forums and you'll see that you cannot use a locked HDD from one Xbox in another Xbox. (I know Hudson has already covered this, so apologies for treading on your toes).

Furthermore, unless you unlock that HDD, you are not going to be able to use it on ANYTHING except the Xbox it was locked to.

I would check your LAN cable soldering - it's possible you've got it soldered to the wrong point.

The LAN activity light is directly taken from the socket (as you know). Check the rear of the Xbox - let me know if you have any lights on the LAN socket there.

i have the cat5 connected to a HP switch and the light on port 2 which the xbox is connected on my swith lights up when i connect the cable. i'm at work right now and didn't really check to see if there was a light in the back of the xbox but i know there's a network connection because port 2 lights up. i'm actually in the IT industry and have no problems with networks but even when i installed the chip at work and turned it on, the LAN light would constantly be on without any network connection so i'm not sure if it's a defective chip or the network card on the board is bad. i changed the tcp/ip setting in my pc to 192.168.0.98 and tried several times to connect the two together to no avail. the xbox just tells me it reverted back to 198.168.0.99 and is stuck there. i just put in a nic in the pc that i have hooked up to my tv so that i can network my pc and xbox together yesterday. i even disabled my wireless network and nothing seems to work. is there anything else you can do in the flashbios menu? like pressing certain buttons together to get some other options?

Is this in the network flash option?

What do you mean by 'reverted back to 192.168.0.99'.

Set your PC to 192.168.0.1 / 255.255.255.0 and try to ping the Xbox on the address it gives you.

Remove that LAN wire for the time being and go on the LEDs on the back of the Xbox (LAN socket).

yes..in the flashbios menu..reverted back meaning that the xbox looks for the dhcp server but when i doesn't find one it just says yadi yadi yada 192.168.0.99. i'll have to go home to try putting that 192.168.0.99 in the browser to see if the bios menu comes up. stupid me, forgot to ping. anyways. thanks for the help and i'll see if i can ping. but if i can't ping, what would be the next diagnostic?

manual? the chip never came with a manual..i hope i'm not sounding stupid but this is the first time i'm installing an xbox mod chip and so i've never bought a chip to know if it came with a manual..and for installing the chip and flashing the bios, yes i have read the instructions on flashing and already downloaded X3 1959 Bios. i'm not sure what other manual or tutorials you're talking about. i'm just not very familiar with the problems that can occur when upgrading or changing a motherboard and i know you said if you're lazy to search for the problem you're not gonna get your answer, but i couldn't find anyone else with the same problems i have so i had to post. let me know if there's another manual i need to read. thanks

No worries, no toes stood on :)

Mrspcy,

yes it is dead..i was trying to switch from a phillips dvd drive to a samsung drive and i forget what i did but i fried the board..smelled like something burned and tried booting but wouldn't work so i switched to another board which is a 1.4..that was over a hear ago..lol..anyways..i guess it's almost impossible to unlock a hd..i tried to do a low level format on the drive and it wouldn't do anything..the utility just kept freezing..i have no eeprom so i guess that hard drive is toast unless someone can show me the light and give me instructions on how to unlock it..i have tried to look for solutions all over the place but everyone's saying i need the eeprom. so..if you can help me out hudson, i'd really appreaciate it. btw..i flashed the bios with x3 bios but i'm not sure if the xbox logo is supposed to be some other color than green. and on the bottom of the logo isn't there supposed to be the name of the bios? any help will be greatly appreaciated. thanks.
