Upgrading an already upgraded HDD - Slayers won't boot

Hi,

I hope someone here can help me solve this infuriating problem I am having.

I have an already upgraded hard drive in my 2.6CE-equipped Xbox. It's an 80Gb Maxtor, which I am now wanting to replace with a brand new 160Gb Maxtor. So far so good.

However, I cannot get the system to boot up any Slayer's CD/DVD that I create. So I was wondering if my original install (though working) has somehow been crippled so I cannot boot from the DVD Drive?

Here's as much info as I can dig up about my current config:

On Evox screens, i get either BIOS: Unknown, or one of the screens managed to say X3 3294
Also says Evolutionx V+3935
Kernel Version 1.00.5035.01
Xbox H/W Info 00000002A3D4
Dash Version 3935

Flash Bios is 3.0.3 XECUTER2(1024K)

This is what happens when I boot up:

Xecuter config live loading
Flubber Animation,
Xbox Logo, with Rox my Box logo underneath,
Then loads Evox dash.

If I put in my new HDD, obviously I would not expect the Evox dash to load, but I never ever get the Slayer's disc loading either. Just the first two screens as listed above, and then nothing. Just sits on the Xbox Logo.

What also happens is that the DVD drive stops responding (I cannot eject the disc) and if I put the CDRW or DVD (I created both) in the drive when in Evox dash, the disc type says Unknown every time. The drive is a Philips.

I have jumpered the new drive to be cable select (as per the old drive) and I have also tried it as master.

To get the drive to eject a disc, i usually have to load the system on the original setup and then leave it for half an hour or so (never timed it) then i can sometimes eject the disc from the drive. This can get very infuriating - is there an eject override?

I am burning the CDRW onto Verbatim (colour discs), and am also using Ritek DVD-R media. Software used is Nero 7 Premium.

Any ideas/suggestions? I'd just like to get the 160Gb drive in and prepared by Slayers, and then FTP the backed up files back over. I'm not bothered by dual booting, or any other trickery - this is for the kids to play on and needs to be as bullet-proof as possible.

Many thanks in advance!

Darren

yes, I'm burning the ISO as per the instructions on creating the disk - it's burning fine, and verifies fine on the PC.

Is there any best way to create a DVD version? The ISO is set up by default for a CDRW...

for some reason Nero only lets me burn at 4x - no other option available with the Vertbatim CDRW media - I may try a DVD-R again - do i need to do anything special when creating the DVD? I'm using Nero 7, BTW.

Thanks - I will see what media I can find - just wish I'd kept the original Disc I built it with now... :)

So other than this, the configuration I have should work? I did wonder about the BIOS Unknown messages the dashboards give.
