Upgrading my Xbox again... Help?

Well, about 2 years ago, a buddy of mine had his brother mod his Xbox. Soon after, I paid him to do mine as well. Since I knew nothing of the whole process, I didn't ask him for anything special, so all he did was install my hard drive and the mod chip, as well as the EvoX software. After looking around on the internet, I want to upgrade my Xbox again. I especially noticed the ones that friendtech.com has for sale.

Specs on their top model:
1. New Intel 1400MHz Celeron CPU
2. 1480/740MHz Switchable Speed
3. Memory Upgraded to 128MB
4. Pre-Modded (with Media Key installed)
5. 120GB Hard Drive + Media Center software
6. DreamX HDTV and A/V Cable included, for Component and S-Video
Support
7. Dolby 5.1 and DTS 5.1 Surround Sound with Optical Fiber Audio Port
8. DVD Remote Control + USB Receiver
9. Xbox to USB Converter (for connecting an optional wireless keyboard
& mouse)
10. Extra heatsink and heat conductive chain for improved heat dissipation
11. Rubber Pedestal Feet
12. New External Skin

That is straight copied and pasted, from their site, and they have options like a bigger hard drive and such. I was wondering if there is anyone who has modded their Xbox anything similar to this. They claim the speed is better, the software is better, you name it. I would guess that the speed and gameplay aspects is improved, so I want to look into to doing it.

Like I said before, I have the Xecuter 2.x Lite I believe, I have EvoX software, and there is a Boxplorer, XBcopy, DVDx, an FTP program, and a media center... The FTP and media center are confusing and aren't good at all, so I never use them. I'm not complaining about the DVD player, but I have to use a controller for it. I have a 160 gb Western Digital hard drive, 7200 rpm, and it works fine.

I'm going to upgrade my hard drive to at least 200 gb, so I figured while I was at it, I would do everything at once, so any help you may have as far as advice on what to install, fans, software, whether or not I need a new mod chip (I want to buy the Xecuter3), etc., I really appreciate it!!!

Thanks,
Josh :?:

hello mate - happy new year.

the DREAMX is a very serious bit of kit but do you really need it?

In my opinion if you are going to run LINUX on your XBOX it is definitely going to be worth it. The extra RAM and CPU speed would really help. If you are just going to be running XBOX games and MEDIA CENTER etc just get yourself an X3 chip(these are the dogd boll*!*s). Slap the biggest hard drive you can in and off you go. XBOX games would not run faster on a DREAMX XBOX, and even if they did would you want your games speed up?

This is just my opinion and also getting an X3 and a HDD would be alot cheaper than the DREAMX box.

The XECUTER3 has a great FTP feature built in. You probably don't even have an HDTV so just keep thing simple!!!

Hope this helps.

the thing is, when they code xbox games they do so with the xbox's specs in mind. If there were framereate problems or glitchy times in games, maybe extra ram/cpu power could help but only after you patch the files to adapt to the 128mb of ram.

Hey, Happy New Year to all!!!!!!!

Well I would have to agree with you two on the idea of the gameplay speed being just right... that was the whole thing that was confusing to me about it. I didn't think that the games would be made for the system if it isn't what they had in mind, so thanks for confirming my feelings.

About the Linux, I wasn't too sure if I was going to be doing that--more than likely I won't. I thought it'd be a cool feature to have though if I "did" want to use it. My feelings about that is I have a computer for that sort of stuff, so that would be just extra money spent, or thrown away as it sounds. :)

As far as the chip goes, is it pretty easy to change the chip I already have in it and put the X3 in??? I'm pretty knowledgeable, but I'm no guru of course. Also, what about my toggle switch for the chip I have... will it just work the same with the X3 or will that need changed as well?

I guess the next step is just getting my hard drive and copying all my games over from my existing one, but what about that? Does the hard drive manufacturer matter at all?

After that, which software would you recommend? I have no real problem with the EvoX at all to this point, except for when I needed to update my version and flash my BIOS. That was a bit tricky since I didn't do my first mods, so I wasn't sure where to find everything. I'm ok now though. What programs do you suggest for the copying, DVD playback, media center, etc.? I'm just curious what everyone has to say. Also, anyone know if there is a way to copy movies onto the hard drive?

Thanks for all the help,
Josh

Batman: Arkham City trailer takes a dive towards crime

The latest Batman: Arkham City trailer has a little bit of everything for everyone: Some clips of Bats' new locomotive abilities, some slow-motion face-kicking, a look at some of the island's most nefarious villains, and a totally dope song about how the city "ain't no place for a hero." Really, background music? Because it looks like Arkham City is in desperate need of a good ol' fashioned sprucing-up at the hands of a caped crusader.

Check out the trailer after the jump, but brace yourself: Batman's new aerial diving maneuver is so radical, you might actually faint.Continue reading Batman: Arkham City trailer takes a dive towards crime
