I've just about had it with the X3 and its PASSWORD bug. I've tried everything I've been told and I'm still sitting at the ENTER YOUR PASSWORD screen. Created a BOOT disk (following instruction) with the default.XBE (X3_Erase) but that didn't work worth squat.

Hey - I have an idea - why don't you send me another X3 chip and I'll give you back the one I have!!!!! Come on now TEAMXECUTER give me some real help - this has gone on long enough!
all you have to do is burn the default.xbe to a disc. If you are using a CD not a DVD just add a 100mb dummy file to the disc. I had a thought as to why your disc might not be booting, in X3 config live did you disable booting from CD?

I didn't disable booting from CD...

I didn't disable booting from CD, however, my dummy files probably didn't reach 100mb as you suggest. I'll try increasing the size of the dummy file and see what happens. Do you know if the capacity of the CD-RW makes a difference (ie 650 VS 700MB)?

either a 650mb or a 700mb cd should be fine. I have always said the bigger the dummy file the better - a minimum of 100mb!!! Have you also tried making a proper XISO? this should increase your chance of success for your xbox reading the disc.

ISO created - looks fine but - what next?

OK - I created an ISO image using Craxtion 4 with default.xbe (X3_erase) and a 100mb + dummy file. Burned the ISO image to a CD RW at the lowest speed. Put the disk in the XBOX and I don't see anything different then before. Should I see the X3_Erase application come up on the screen? I believe I have followed the directions to a T but nothing is happening. What should I see happen?

This is making me sick!

Don't use the same bios with the password to boot... it will just freeze.
Flash a different bios to use the boot disc but make sure you can get into the backup bios before you do that. Always have a spare bios bank which you can use to reflash your other bios banks.

More detail please....

I don't know what you mean - please provide more detail. specifics would be welcome as I have no clue what you mean when you say boot with a different BIOS as I am trying to boot from the BOOT disk. From what I was told I was supposed to burn a disk with default.xbe (x3_erase) and the 100mb+ dummy file, which I did, but I don't know what is meant by boot with a different BIOS. I assumed when I boot from the disk it would reset the X3 (it doesn't).

I really think there is no way to get around the password reset bug and I'm just wasting my time. I think TEAMXecuter is going to have to step up at this point and either provide me with the help I need or ship me a replacement X3.

HELP!!!!!!!!!!

Please don't reply unless you have the specific help I need to get this damn password reset bug fixed!

The trouble is your xbox is halting before the boot of the disk...

I believe if u flash 3108 then u can use the a+b+x+y to erase the password, it seems to work for some.

However i think that u will need to flash a 256k bios to a spare bank , something like Evox_M8 then boot this with the disk containing the default.xbe erase program on it.

Any help from the folks that actually produce the X3?

Come on - can anyone who actually produces the X3 help here? Isn't there just one simple solution that works - this is like weaving through a maze with no end. Or, better yet just send me another X3 chip so I can put this behind me. I spent over $200 and a lot of time on your product and no one can provide me with a concise answer for a known bug? Come on - step up and provide me with some decent help!

Your answer was there...boot a bios that does not use the config live of the x3 (evox bios) ,that way your box will not prompt for a password and will boot the erase program on the disk.

Once its erased the x3 you can reflash an x3 bios and use the x3 fully featured.

Are you saying you have tried this and it does not work?

Nice answer - read the stream and you tell me where the answer is - a needle in a haystack! This sucks! I was told I could boot with a disk which only had default.xbe (X3_Erase) and a 100MB+ dummy file  - apparently that info was wrong - so what is right? Send me another X3 and I'll send this one back to TeamXecuter or just fix the BIOS bug!

I believe what the guys are telling you is this:

Your boot disk that you have created is absolutely fine.

At the moment you are using the 3294 bios which you have encountered the password bug. Now this is what's happening - you are trying to boot your boot disk containing the X3 erase but because you have encountered the bug your xbox is not getting as far booting for either CD or DVD. The box is locking before the boot sequence.

so what you need to do is this:

reflash with 1959 bios. When you boot you will still get the password screen, and from what I remember you cannot get in due to a forgotten password. But by flashing 1959 you have cleared the password bug and you will be able to boot from the boot cd/dvd you have created. The default.xbe will load and your X3's eeprom will be cleaned. Thus no password.

So in summary:

1) flash 1959
2) insert boot disk you created
3) Reboot and boot from cd/dvd - eeprom will be cleared - no problems

There is nothing wrong with your chip. It's just a small bios error. Unfortunately I can't see you getting it swapped as this is a combination of bios/user error not an actual chip fault. But after doing this your problem should be cleared.

Let us know how you get on!!!!!

No dice - please help!

:( I re-flashed with 1959. I have my switch settings to boot to 1959 - when I boot I stiill get the password login screen. When I put the boot disk in and restart - with the switch settings still on the 1959 bios - the boot disk does nothing. No matter how I boot the box the default.xbe isn't executing.

Can someone out there make me a boot disk that works so I can get on with working with the X3 instead of trying to fix a known bug (its been months with the problem and I haven't been able to use the mod as I would have like too or expected too. SUCKS

Are there any other "good" instructions out there for creating working boot disks. It seems everyone set of instructions I've tried has failed.

Please help - I am desperate! :(

Your never gonna boot the disk with the password prompt coming before the Disk boot....
What you need to do is load a NON X3 bios such as evox M8 to a spare 256K bank then boot that up.
This will then ignore the eeprom settings on the x3 and continue to boot the disk.
Once its done set your switches back to a 1M Bios and re-boot.
You should then have x3 features all at default settings. NO PASSWORD

mrozde if you email me i will send you my address and if you post me your chip i will reflash it for you and set it back to the factory defaults. it is a very hard process to do just by reading a few threads. ihave done a few of these password lockouts now and everyones is working 100% as it should. thats if you are still having problems. only send the chip if its a none solder type chip and include the password that you put into the chip. my email address is [email protected].
